Watson and McCallum Capture Dauphin Spiel Honors
Ken Watson and his Winnipeg Neepawa rink dominated Dauphin’s 52nd annual bonspiel ending Saturday. Watson won three prizes including the Grand Challenge and Grand Aggregate, with McCallum taking two prizes and the Stelek’s Hardware trophy going to Les Serthner’s Dauphin rink. The top attraction was Watson’s rink, which played 14 games highlighting the event where local rinks shared most prizes.

July Dates Set For Dauphin Fair 1950
Delegates from the Dauphin Agricultural Society left Winnipeg with optimism for the 1950 summer fair. The Dauphin fair will run July 24, 25 and 26 with extended acts from Chicago booking agents. Harness racing is scheduled for July 25 and 26 with nine races each day. The E L Casey combined shows will headline the midway attraction. Dauphin delegates were George Dowler B C Gondhand and J Crowe.

Mayor Bullmore Named President of Manitoba Urban Association
Dauphin Mayor William L. Bullmore was elected as the first president of the newly formed Manitoba Urban Association at Winnipeg closing session. The two day conference elected zone delegates and officers including Frank Williamson and Paul Marion. Delegates from 31 municipalities attended. The group approved 12 resolutions and planned the 1951 Brandon convention.

Fire claims man in Sunday Dauphin residence
Mr Forbes the sole occupant perished in a house fire Sunday morning with smoke asphyxiation confirmed by post mortem. Firemen valued total damage around 2000 dollars. Forbes born in Gowrak Scotland came to Canada 1910, lived in Winnipeg, then Dauphin since 1917. Survived by son James and daughter Mrs Fred Baggett, two brothers and a sister. Funeral at Sneaths Chapel with Rev L A Muttitt. Interment Riverside Cemetery.

Stork Wins Race With Local Taxi
A taxi driver John Witwicki raced a stork for a 10 mile course to Dauphin General Hospital. The baby boy seven pounds seven ounces was born in the cab at 12 24 PM Monday with Dr R F Dicks and hospital staff present. The stork lost by a close margin in a humorous local tale.

Wind Change Prevents Further Fire Damage at Sifton
Fire in the Village of Sifton destroyed a garage and a house, gutted the post office, damaged a cafe pool room and other buildings, as residents in 25 below zero weather fought the blaze. A shifting wind cut spread, aiding bucket brigades from residents and six Dauphin firefighters who battled snowbound pumps.
