Power Plant Stand-by Not Adequate for Demand

The town council met with Mayor Bennett presiding to address inadequate stand-by power for demand. Reports cited 4509 of 5000 cords of wood delivered, remaining orders, and concerns over boiler stress. Tenders for wood hauling and street work were opened and awarded. Peter Cruise and A E Prentice secured contracts.

Women’s League Meeting Highlights Musical and Resource Talks

The Ladies’ Circle of W convened Monday—Mrs. McFadden chaired and introduced Bethel Wallace whose paper on Some aspects of music in Manitoba urged parental support and child musical training with references to school programs and symphonies. Mrs. Judson presented a Natural Resources development talk backed by data, while Mrs. Bewell summarized current events and noted a delegation's call on the Prime Minister regarding relief work.

Dauphin Little Theatre Presents Julius Caesar on Club Night

On January 15 the MacKensie School Auditorium hosted a Dauphin club night devoted to Shakespeare. Dr. Bewell presided as R. M. Stevenson directed a Julius Caesar scene with Churchill Moore Sperani Reid and Haig. Wicklund gave a play summary and Sperani discussed the music as violin and piano pieces and a choral finale closed with God Save the King.

Frivolity Fair and Local Events Schedule

Events listed include Frivolity Fair by Dauphin Girls' Athletic Club at town hall on Friday January 27, a Rural Relief carnival at skating rink on Tuesday January 31, a Dauphin Travellers' Association hockey club dance at town hall Friday February 3, a Grand Hotel week at Dauphin Theatre, a hockey match Friday January 27 with a 7 30 start and 800 youngsters urged to arrive for nickel change, and a Public Forum by CCF at Elks Hall Saturday January 28 in the evening.

Death of G. L. Irwin in Dauphin District

G L Irwin, aged nearly 77, died Friday January 20 at the home of Dr Bottomley after illness. Born in Boston, he lived in Owen Sound Manitoba and Dauphin where he ran a private bank before joining Bank of Ottawa. He helped found the Dauphin General Hospital and died in Dauphin with services at St Pauls Anglican church January 24. He is survived by a brother and a sister. Pallbearers named.

Dauphin rallied from a second period tie to defeat Winnipeg CNR 2-1 in a fast paced junior hockey clash. Tom Scrase and Herb Leech provided the scoring as Dauphin surged late in the third to secure the win.
