Plans for Three-Room Addition to MacKenzie School Sought

Dauphin-Ochre School Area No 1 board will seek plans and an estimate for a three-room addition above the MacKenzie school auditorium. Architect J N Semmens of Winnipeg to be asked to prepare drawings and cost, following a joint committee report on Dauphin accommodation needs.

Temperatures Plunge Across Dauphin District in Cold Wave

A new cold wave keeps Dauphin district temperatures below freezing for a week. The highest reading was -1.2 degrees last Thursday and the low hit -35.4 on Tuesday morning. Snow totals reached over two inches, with 18 inches measured last Wednesday.

Gowanlock rink to represent Dauphin in Consols Playdown

Ab Gowanlock and his rink won a tiebreaker over Cy McCallum at the local curling rink to earn Dauphin a spot in the British Consol's provincial playdown. The match went to an 11th end with a cold draw to the button delivering the victory, after a 8 8 tie through ten ends. The Gowanlock lineup included Art Pollan Jim Williams and Russ Jackman with Moe Callum teammates Burley Townsend Gordon Brown and Len Katichak.

Urban Group To Meet In Dauphin Next Year

The Manitoba Urban association announced that its 1935 annual convention will be held in Dauphin in January 1953. The group includes all Manitoba urban centres and was organized two years ago in Winnipeg with Dauphin mayor W. L. Bullmore as first president. The meeting moved from Brandon to Winnipeg this year.

Fire destroys Dauphin curling rink in 54 thousand dollar blaze

In 35 below weather a early Tuesday fire leveled the old Dauphin curling rink home to the Dauphin Auction Mart and Upholstery and a Buckwold and Sons warehouse. Firemen fought the flames for more than three hours in bitter cold.

Keep Power Plant For Emergencies or Appeal

The Dauphin Civil Defence Coordinating council urged the provincial govern ment to retain the Dauphin electric power plant in operable condition as a standby unit for emergencies. A letter to Hon. C Rhodes Smith outlined the plant's history and argued it could be activated quickly if needed, despite a broader move to rely on Winnipeg River line supply.

Fire Destroys Sifton School in Manitoba Village

Sifton two room schoolhouse burned Sunday evening believed from an overheated stove. The old building was saved from near completion new four room school only 15 feet away thanks to Dauphin fire department, volunteer bucket brigades, and Sifton rink hall as temporary classrooms. Insurance totals 7,200 with 6,000 on the burned building and 1,200 on contents. Principal James Stanko estimates book losses at about 1,400.

Cy McCallum and Son Dominate Dauphin Bonspiel

The 54th Dauphin bonspiel concluded after six days with Cy McCallum skipping a Dauphin rink to the T. Eaton Co. Grand Challenge and grand aggregate title, going 10 wins, one loss. His son Lorne, skip of Glenboro, led the Scott's Hardware event winner and grand runner up with nine wins.
