Dauphin Man Bowed Speaker of the Commons
Jas L Bowman of Dauphin becomes the first Manitoba born to hold the speakership in Ottawa. The appointment, announced from Parliament, draws congratulations from local officials and Bowman’s wife Mrs Bowman as hosts in the House of Commons. Bowman, M P since 1930, has long led in law, politics and sports in Dauphin.

Garland man sentenced for false pretences in Duck Mountain case
Neil McDermid of Garland, formerly assistant to the doctor at the Garland relief camp, was convicted of obtaining money and goods by false pretences and of theft of clothes. He received one year in prison from Mr Little last Thursday. He had come to Dauphin mid December and bought about twenty five dollars of goods at a local drug store charging them to the doctor. Police arrested him when found peddling the goods. A check showed he had been dismissed from the camp at the end of November.
