Centralization Plan for Dauphin Memorial Centre Outlined

Planning committee completes a $300000 centralization plan for Dauphin Memorial and Community Centre. The proposal designates a southeast town area with a new memorial boulevard, a relocated tape office, and 27 activities including a skating rink, grandstand, exhibition grounds, and a sports field. Funds are to come from town and rural donations, with provincial and federal grant applications planned.

Bob Scott Heads Parks Board 1947

R. P. Bob Scott was elected chairman of the Parks board at the first meeting of the year in the council chamber. The financial statement showed a cash surplus after liabilities. Camp revenue reached 996 and rink receipts totaled 1050 with 321 from hockey. A skating-rink concern cited discipline during games. police will supervise. Committees named with Scott as rink manager and others on Parks Boulevards and Tourist Camp.

Fire Brigade Answers 42 Calls In 1946 Dauphin

The Dauphin fire brigade answered 42 alarms in 1946 down from 50 in 1945. Twenty five chimney fires, ten property fires, plus one automobile and one motorcycle fire. Damages totaled 1690 in town. 1400 rural losses in 1945. Ochre River Pouncey store burned for 15000. Officers reelected at Jan 8 meeting.

Snowbound Roads Report in District

The major snowstorm last week closed several routes in the district. No. 5 to the Saskatchewan border stayed open while the Neepawa road opened by morning and the Winnipegosis highway by afternoon on Wednesday January 22. Ethelbert to Swan River remained closed.

First Diagnostic Unit to Open at Dauphin General Hospital

Dauphin Manitoba to host the provinces first Health Services Act diagnostic unit at Dauphin General Hospital. A full-time lab and X ray technician will serve bona fide residents of Dauphin and nearby Ochre River and Ethelbert. Card holders receive free tests. X rays incur a small charge. Costs shared by municipalities and government. unit aims to lower patient expenses and expedite diagnosis.

Town Tree Nursery To Be Discontinued

Parks board members discussed abolishing the town tree nursery saying it had served its purpose and future trees could come from larger nurseries. One member noted the yard grows wood, not transplantable trees, and only existing trees will be used for transplanting. A request from the Canadian Legion sought enough trees to plant.

Kelwood rink wins three titles at Dauphin bonspiel

Lawrence Baker and teammates Earle Mabley Earle Birnie and Bill Mabley captured the Eaton Burrows Memorial and Grand Aggregate crowns, carrying Kelwood to a 13 win spree. The victory mirrored last year’s visiting team triumph, as Dauphin’s 49th annual bonspiel delivered another chapter in local curling lore.
