War Savings Drive To Be Conducted in Dauphin Area

Organizing work starts for a special war savings drive in Dauphin. Canvassing will mirror the Federated War Fund method, dividing the town into wards led by a convenor and assistants. The Dauphin War Savings committee, now fourteen, may grow. Mayor J. E. Ramsden chairs it with members including D. D. McDonald and Elizabeth Town among others.

Veterans' Guard of Canada Seeks Volunteers in Dauphin

Ottawa headquarters requests numbers from the Dauphin reserve company on veterans available for active service. It is believed at least three officers and about 75 men from Dauphin Roblin Swan River and The Pas could volunteer. No new active companies are planned, volunteers would serve as replacements.

Parks Board Considers Disposal of 300 Trees

Dauphin Parks board discussed selling 300 young trees from the town nursery at 50 cents each or 1 per tree planted. A special committee will arrange distribution to citizens. Other items reviewed included tourist camp caretaking, budget timing, and continuing the outdoor skating rink for the season.

Embroidered Table Cloth Nets 34 for Red Cross

The Legion club raffled a hand embroidered table cloth donated by Mrs. Bert Richardson of Dauphin. After two years of work the cloth was won by Charles Harris of Grosse Isle, Man. Proceeds go to the Dauphin Red Cross society.

Dauphin intermediates face the Coca Cola Seniors of Winnipeg this Saturday reinforced by new players Lee Carrol The Pas and Bill Kiem Yorkton plus regular Sam Love returning from Portage la Prairie for the game. Travellers Skip Winter Carnival This Year

The Dauphin Commercial Travellers will not hold their annual winter carnival this year after six years of events. Queens were elected, skaters and comedians imported, and prizes awarded, but organizers say the returns did not justify the effort and expense.

Cadets Practice Rifle Code and First Aid at Fort Garry

Squadron of Fort Garry Horse cadets trains in rifle drill morse code signalling and first aid. .22 calibre rifles arrived weeks ago and a basement range is set up. Ammunition awaited from Winnipeg HQ. Over 350 boys from Whitmore Smith-Jackson schools and Dauphin Collegiate Institute receive instruction under E D Palmer with staff acting as leaders.

Four Alley Bowling Room Promised in Dauphin

The Herald reports a four alley bowling room will open in about three months in Dauphin. It will occupy the basement of the Edgar block, run by a Winnipeg firm. Excavation is under way to prepare a new concrete floor and a front will be cut on the north side of the Dauphin Furniture store window.

New Safety Precautions On 1941 Bicycle Plates

Town office displays 1941 bicycle license plates in yellow and black with reflector clamps. Bicycles must have holes drilled for license belts and plates placed within one inch of the mudguard bottom. Chief Anderson warns against hand held lights. permanent bicycle lights must burn all night.

Two Ducks Spend Winter Along Vermillion River

Last year's lone duck has a mate and two wild ducks are wintering on the Vermillion river in Dauphin. Pete Brooks has cared for them with feed donated by elevator agents. He reports boys with guns near the birds and warns that unmolested ducks could attract more, potentially thirty by next winter.

Lions Hear Talk On Safety Patrols In Dauphin

W Trevor Davies Winnipeg accident prevention inspector addressed the Dauphin Lions on school safety patrols. He noted patrols teach safe habits and empower children to guide adults. Since 1936 Winnipeg patrols grew to 45 schools and 425 boys with 24 million crossings yearly and only two injuries occurred where patrols operated.
