Dauphin Board of Trade holds annual meeting with sixty members in attendance. J M McFadden is reelected president as the board approves plans to push the Maferking cut off and unite with Winnipeg and Brandon boards while seeking lower electric rates and greater regional cooperation.

Gaol Terms For Theft And Moose Possession

William Kanuka of Gilbert Plains received two six month sentences this week for separate offences. Magistrate Hawkins at Dauphin ordered six months for stealing a magneto from Gilbert Plains municipality, while Magistrate Dutton at Gilbert Plains sentenced six months for possession of a female moose. The sentences run concurrently except for the two day gap between cases.

Towns Convene Conference on Mafeking Cutoff Efforts

Dauphin council calls a northwestern Manitoba meeting of municipal representatives to plan the Mafeking cutoff project. Brandon Portage la Prairie Neepawa and Minnedosa invited to join. A conference date of Wednesday February 5 is set with a banquet for visiting delegates.

First Annual Meeting of United Church of Dauphin Held

The first annual meeting of the United Church of Dauphin was held Tuesday evening with about 150 in attendance. Rev A W Lochead chairs. G M Churchill elected congregational secretary. Elders and stewards were elected unanimously and will be ordained February 2. Reports show 655 church members, 420 Sunday School enrolment, and positive outlook for the coming year.

Store Thieves Brought to Court in Dauphin

Three young men faced Magistrate Hawkins on charges tied to December store robberies in the area. Ernest Felker 19, Harold Ferguson 23, and Alex Harvey 23 pleaded guilty to multiple burglaries including Imperial Oil Co. and Allard's Garage incidents. Harvey, a Nova Scotia native, admitted prior convictions were none. Ferguson and Felker remanded to await sentencing.

Two Months for Cruelty to Horse

Mike Yarema was sentenced by Magistrate Hawkins on the 18th to two months imprisonment for cruelty to a horse. Provincial Police laid the charge. Yarema was arrested when his horse was discovered to be badly breeding at the mouth. The tongue had been paralyzed for some time, and the lacerating of the mouth had been caused by inhuman use of the bit.

Dauphin curling club bonspiel opens Monday

The Dauphin curling club hosts the 32nd annual bonspiel starting Monday January 27 and running to Friday 31. Nine ice sheets will be used with three open events the Theo A Burrows Memories Trophy Cameron and Heap Trophy and the Citizens Trophy. The consolation event is the Greer Stripe Trophy with prize money from Dist Mer Corporation Seagram Ltd. Special prizes honor outs home rinks with fewest games and the rink traveling farthest. Officers include President F C Bishop secretary G H Grot entertainment F C Bishop and others. first visitor games will be iced to Tuesday morning January 28 if desired.

Dauphin School Musical Festival Set for May in Dauphin

Under the Dauphin school Board, a school musical festival open to all Northern Manitoba schools will be held in Dauphin on May 23. Schools without a syllabus can obtain one from Mrs. F M Paditey, secretary. Special Children's Matinee today shows Oh Yeah at Dauphin Theatre for 10 cents.

Ward Loses Car to Fire in Garage Panic

W J Ward MP attempted to warm his car by placing hot coals under the engine. A flame enveloped the vehicle while a bid for hot water failed. Dauphin fire brigade extinguished the blaze. the garage survived but the 1929 Whippet was wrecked and insured.

Value of the Studies Carried on in the School

The Mackenzie school launches a six meeting series over three months on Literary and Educational Topics. The first session Tuesday January 28 at 7 30 pm will be led by Mr Steverson. The meeting will also discuss organizing an association.

Installation in the LOO.F hall on Tuesday evening January 14 conducted by Past Worthy Mistress Della Weir with Sister Sarah Thompson. Eighteen officers installed including Frances Spencer Violet Rhefl Sophia Terry Catherine Alten Helen Thompson Jennie Heatherington Bella Wer and Lizzie Hill. A dainty lunch followed the social time.
