E N McGirr is reelected president of the Dauphin Board of Trade for another year. Ochre River Trustees Slash Teachers Pay At Meeting

Ochre River Municipality trustees meet at Makinak on Jan 14 and vote to cut all teacher salaries by 26 percent with a minimum of 70 dollars per month. Teachers offered one month notice of acquittal if they refuse. A municipal trustees association is formed to meet by mid June. $2124.34 is noted. The Interior Minister announces Riding Mountains National Park will open in summer 1931 as part of a growing Dominion wide system of playgrounds.

Petition to Reconsider Town Salary Cuts Sparks Debate

Seventy two Dauphin ratepayers petitioned the town council urging reversal of wage reductions for civic employees. They argue the town is financially sound and warn wage cuts could harm morale and fairness, highlighting long serving employee W A Brinkman and his key roles. Council deferred the issue until all members could attend.

Hold-up Attempt on Mackenzie School Grounds in Dauphin

Joseph Taylor reported being attacked from behind on Monday night near Mackenzie school grounds about 10 45. A man struck him with a heavy bolt, they grappled and fell, the bolt dropped and the assailant fled into darkness. The weapon is now with police and no solid clues exist beyond Taylor's vague description.

Agricultural short course and fairs set for March dates

The annual winter fairs and seed grain exhibits run March 3 to 6 with large colt and calf entries expected. District judging teams are formed and training, while contests offer substantial cash prizes and trophies. Activities include junior seed growers training, beef grading demonstrations, and a Ladies Poultry Judging event. Elks Lodge officers are listed.

Annual Meeting of the Ladies Aid and Dauphin Band Event

The Ladies Aid of the United Church Dauphin held its annual meeting on January 7 with reports from all departments. Total membership 103. funds raised $781.55. retiring president honored. new officers elected for 1931. The Dauphin Citizens' Band then held its annual concert and dance at the town hall, with Bandmaster J. C. McMurray conducting and Mayor Robson presiding. The band, largely self-financed, featured vocal solos, quartets, and other numbers to enthusiastic reception.

Seward to Be Buried in Riverside Cemetery

Fred W. Seward of Victoria British Columbia died Friday January 16. He long resided in Dauphin as a Canadian National Railway engineer. His body will be shipped to Dauphin for a service at United Church next Sunday and burial at Riverside cemetery.

Self Destruction Tragedy Near Pine River Farm

In the Pulp River district ten miles east of Pine River on Sunday January 18 Peter Andrychuk killed himself. He hanged himself with a rope attached to a cross beam after preparing a rifle trigger setup. Coroner Dr. Rogers of Dauphin ruled death a self inflicted act with no stated motive. Andrychuk, in good circumstances and recently married ten weeks, left a young widow.

Dauphin Public Library Announces Librarian and Hours

The Dauphin Public Library announces Merle Armstrong as Librarian and a January 31 opening from 4 30 to 6 PM and 7 30 to 9 30 PM. Regular hours to follow Tuesdays and Saturdays. Memberships are $2 for one year or $5 for three years. Premises are Little's Business College. A social evening for members and friends is set for Tuesday January 27 at 8 PM at McKenzie School auditorium.
