Bowman Talks To Canadian Club On European Tour

James L Bowman told the Canadian Club about his 1926 trip to England London Paris and New York describing impressions of cities and flights from London to Paris. The audience included many Britons and the talk drew laughs and praise with plans to resume receipts of the remainder at a later club meeting. Officers for 1927 were announced and Syd Chaplin starred at the Dauphin Theatre Friday and Saturday.

School Board Engages Architect for New Dauphin Building

A special meeting of the Dauphin school board chaired by H. E. Bennet approved engaging Edgar Prain of Winnipeg to prepare eight room collegiate building plans including an assembly hall board room teachers room and library. Public school plans remain on hold awaiting provincial decision on a normal school.

Keid residents face charges in provincial police court

Mary Bomak appeared before P. M. Hawkins on Jan 1 on a charge of assaulting Matilda Naketrash both of Keid. She pleaded guilty and was fined the costs of the prosecution. Isaac Robertson of Winnipegosis appeared before P. M. Whale on a vagrancy charge and was committed to Dauphin gaol pending transfer arrangements. Ten other cases were dealt with, details not released.

Bliss Carman to Perform for Dauphinites at Grace Church

Canadian poet Bliss Carman, famed as a Maritimer born in Fredericton, will give a reading in Dauphin at Grace Church on Friday night, January 21, offering a rare chance to hear his verse live.

Dauphin hockey fans brave 30 below to see 6 1 victory

Veteran Canadian railroader Phillip James Celebrated

Swan River Star and Times honors Phillip James a seventy year old old test engineer who joined CPR in 187% and later moved to CN R in 1896 He has served as locomotive fireman engineer and yard worker between Emerson St Vincent Minn Brandon Dauphin and Swan River with a forty year record in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and no serious incidents reported.

Anniversary Services At St. James Church

The St. James United Church congregation marked its 27th anniversary with Rev. Dr. John McKay of Manitoba College preaching at both services. A Monday concert and lecture followed, featuring music by Neal Scrimshaw and Eastman, readings by Mrs. Eastman, and a lecture on Immigration and Citizenship by Dr. McKay.

Money Returned From Manitoba Share Campaign

Monies raised in the Dauphin and Grandview districts under the Manitoba Sale of Shares act to fund oil exploration by W. T. Ross and associates have been partially returned to the Manitoba Public Utilities Commissioner. Authorities say the sum exceeds 1,000 dollars and will be returned to subscribers, while Yorkton area funds remain outside the commissioner's jurisdiction.

Fire Burns Down Aller Family Farm Home

In the early hours of Sunday a fire gutted the Aller family home seventy miles southeast of town. Mrs Aller woke the family as smoke filled the house forcing a rapid evacuation. Fifteen minutes after the first alarm the dwelling was fully engulfed with clothing and furniture lost. Neighbors saved surrounding buildings as an icehouse nearby burned. Insurance covers all buildings.

Printer Christopher Lambourne dies on Winnipeg street

Christopher Lambourne aged 75 collapsed and died on McDermott Avenue Winnipeg Sunday evening. A longtime printer he worked in Winnipeg many years and was on the Dauphin Herald staff for about three years six to seven years ago. He is survived by a son Christopher of McCreary.
