Dauphin hosts the MGEA annual convention February 3 and 4 with about 140 officers and delegates and nearly 300 Dauphin unit members. Bob McEwen chairs local plans with Walter Senick in charge of meals, Jake Symchych as unit councilor, and Fred Mills overseeing executive dinner and tours for delegates’ wives. This marks the second provincial civil service gathering in Dauphin since 1960, as delegates prepare to consider about 50 resolutions from units across Manitoba.

North Air Service Ends Dauphin Calls Under Winter Schedule
Dauphin to be dropped as a northern flight stop under a revised winter schedule running to mid March. Northern services will consolidate into a Winnipeg to The Pas nonstop while Dauphin retains weekday links with TransAir for Winnipeg to Dauphin to Yorkton and return. Local officials cited lack of Dauphin traffic as the reason for discontinuation.

Area Teachers Give Notice To Terminate Salary Agreement
The Dauphin-Ochre Area school board received written notice from District No. 33 of the Manitoba Teachers' Society to terminate the current salary agreement and to begin negotiations for a new schedule. The deadline for termination notices was Jan 15, a rule in place since September 1964 arbitration decisions. The present agreement runs for one year from Sept 1, 1965, and negotiations this month aim to shape an agreement to take effect next September. Tabulations show the salary schedules in force since last September.

Industrial Development Commissioner Sought for Dauphin
Dauphin considers appointing Ivan Thue as development commissioner to coordinate municipal and industrial activities with emphasis on promotion and business development. Dauphin council urged to raise pupil grant at Dr Wright school
A delegation from the Dauphin Association for Retarded Children asked the town council to raise the per student grant for retarded children at the Dr Wright school from 12.50 to 25 dollars per month, matching neighboring municipalities. The request, noting four current students with possibly two more, was sent to the finance committee for 1966 budget consideration. Dr Butler announced Health Minister C H Witney will attend the school opening on Saturday January 29 at 3 p.m. with public viewing until 8 p.m.

Town Council Seeks Ottawa Delegation Over Water Supply
Dauphin council urged a delegation to Ottawa after Hon. Arthur Laing rejected expanding park lands for a new water source. Consultants proposed a Vermillion river headwaters watershed six miles west of Moon Lake, but the minister stressed wilderness preservation and long term park use. A delegation led by the mayor and including council members and engineers will be sent when Underwood McLellan is informed.

Bill McClernon Honored With Life Membership In Chamber Of Commerce
Bill McClernon, longtime Dauphin resident and business figure, received a life membership at the Dauphin chamber of commerce dinner. Dr. Les Pascoe presented the award, praising McClernon’s decades of support for membership drives and Santa Claus parades. He has 45 years of continuous Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen membership and 37 years as B of RT local chair, with a storied Canadian representative record. The honor marks the second life membership in the 63 year history of the local business group.

The Roseneath Guernsey Dairy, run by the McKillop family for over 40 years, has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bernatt. The McKillops, continuing on the farm with swine and cattle, pass the dairy legacy to new owners near Dauphin. The Bernatts acquire 15 cattle and the related ManCo Dairy operations, now Wilson River Guernsey Farm, near the Wilson River location three miles north of the former CNR roundhouse.

Dr Allan Lysack Receives Royal College Fellowship
Dr. Allan Lysack joined Dr M K Brandt in Manitoba medicine at end of November and is among 13 Manitoba doctors named fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for general surgery. A total of 269 doctors earned fellowships this year and will receive diplomas at a Montreal convocation Friday. Lysack left for Montreal Tuesday.
