The Dauphin Board of Trade announces its annual meeting and banquet scheduled for Monday January 23. Details note membership fees and business support, with emphasis on promoting local enterprise and upcoming community plans.
Poultry prize winners announced with multiple breeds gaining top awards. Notable entries include White Leghorns, Black Orpingtons, Anconas, and Langshans with multiple cock, hen, pullet, and cockerel placements. Awards include best cock, best pullet, and best hen in various Mediterranean and American breeds.
The Children’s Aid Society notes an inadvertent omission of Mrs Widmeyer from the Home Committee list. The Ladies Auxiliary to the Children’s Aid Society will hold its annual meeting in the Rest Room on Tuesday January 31st.
Close games define the Trimble trophy as Dauphin clubs prepare for a February 13 start. Section A leader Harry Bennar has four straight wins while Steen Robson Greensides share three wins in Section B. Edmonton bonspiel begins next week with W. D. Ramsay skipping the Dauphin rink.
The Royal Billiard Rooms hosted a weekly Pro Grestive Snooker Tournament with six tables in use. Prizes were awarded to Dreamy Morgan, Wm Johnston, and Percy Chard for first, second, and third place respectively. The event, postponed due to hockey, will resume January 26. Dave Justice departed for Toronto and plans a Dauphin return in March with a busy building season anticipated.
The St Pauls Church annual meeting notes that although floating liabilities rose, overall debt was manageable after repairs to the tower. Mr. McFadden passes charge to Mr. G H Crimes with Rector nominating Mr. G C Leech as warden. Reports from Sunday School and auxiliaries show progress and officers are elected for 1922 including wardens vestry auditors and delegates.
The Herald urges immediate safeguards for the Main street subway as runaways increase. With both ends open, the passage risks becoming a death trap and a protecting engine or stopping effort could have prevented a deadly outcome. Strong protective ends are needed to ensure town improvements are not marred by tragedy.
The Riding Mountain Lodge No 661 Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen elected officers for 1922 1924 with Norman Chard as President and George H Barr as Vice President. Other posts include D La Bossiere Rec and Fin Sec Ed Osborne Trustee, George Ames Delegate, Ed Osborne Legislative Rep and Geo Barr Local Organizer. Post installation Chard appointed aides and a turkey supper followed at Rex Cafe.
A team from a Ramsay-Wright delivery van seized the moment of the driver’s absence near Fourth Ave SW and fled toward home. They rammed their owners’ Main Street storefront, smashing a three section plate glass window and wrecking about thirty phonograph records. Mr Win Chemchuk and wife witnessed the crash as they exited the shop. he was knocked down and injured by shock. Window and music loss estimated over $300, insured.
Ramsay-Rogers Co taken over by a Joint Stock Company and renamed Motor Co Ltd. Mr W D Ramsay will manage the firm which increases capital and will deal in overland Studebaker cars and trucks. The company will also handle Fairbanks Morie Lighting plants.
Victory Chapter No. 6 Eastern Star installed officers led by Patron J W Johnston on the sixteenth. A Jan 13 guest tea in G W V A Hall raised 96 dollars to aid the 500 dollar ward building fund and to finish 1921 business at a 4 PM Saturday session.
A Monday evening gathering led by Miss F Miller featured talks on Verdi Mozart and Verbeni read by Miss M Buchannon Caldwell and Miller. Miss Lilian Tredale performed a solo with selections from the masters while F J Wright acted as master of ceremonies. Citizenship night follows next Monday under Miss Wrights committee inviting all youths ages sixteen to twenty.
The Collegiate hockey team won 6 to 3 at Ochre River after a fast game on January 7. A lively debate in Grade IX featured Lat and bore r, with Miss Brinkman and Mr. Allen presenting both sides. Other notes include a Ste. Rose hockey victory, a patient recovery from Mrs. Marsh, and local price shifts for wood.
Mrs. G. W. Robson formerly Alice E. Chard, aged 37 years 3 months 12 days, died at Edmonton on January 14. The notice records her full name and age.
