A lodge member presented KC. Smith as the old handsome past president's jewel. The ceremony outlined the lodge’s activities since formation and praised Brother Everett's leadership during his term.
A report notes a well running winter program with Thursday hall reservations for committee led entertainments and a January ball to be announced later. Members are urged to pay dues for the year while the GW V A continues handling many pension and appeal cases and Comrade J R Bowler serves Manitoba on the Appeal Board.
Mr. Alex Burback of Togo underwent an operation on Tuesday and is doing well. Mr. J. G. Presley of Gilbert Plains had an operation on Saturday. Mr. John Yakimishyn of Roblin underwent an appendicitis operation and is doing well. Mr. James Cliff of Kelwood was admitted on the lth for a nasal operation and will stay a few days. Louis Luser, two years old, was admitted on the 5th with an eye injury from a chair fall. Mr. A. Zihrul of Sifton was admitted on the 9th for an operation.
Twenty four years ago next Sunday the St James Presbyterian church opened with Rev Dr Scott then minister. Next Sunday Rev Dr Chris Tie of Westminister church Winnipeg will lead morning and evening services and speak to youth at a united Brotherhood and Sisterhood meeting at War Vets hall at 2 39. A Turkey Dinner follows Monday evening at Ramsay hall with after dinner speech by Dr Tie. Over 300 seats expected to avoid delays.
Professor Osborne of the University of Manitoba will lecture in the town hall on Wednesday evening January 30 at o'clock. His topic is Elements of Hope in the Present World Situation. The Dauphin Collegiate Institute sponsors the talk and there is no admission fee. Citizens are urged to attend.
Methodist lists Sunday morning topic The importance of the Neglected and evening An Old Story with a Modern Meaning with Sunday School at 2 30. Baptist led by Rev Duncan Ritchie with 11 o clock and 7 30 pm services and 2 30 pm Sunday School. Presbyterian St James Church led by Rev Philip Duncan BA with 11 am and 7 0 pm services on January 20 and 2 30 pm Sunday School. United meeting of Brotherhood and Sisterhood at 2 30 pm in War Vets building with Dr Christie address and 2 30 pm church Sunday School. Mid week 7 29 pm Character Series and annual congregational meeting January 29 at 7 30 pm.

On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Ritchie and Mrs. J H Delong hosted a Baptist Young Worshipers league gathering in the church lecture room. The program featured games and a supper for about forty attendees. Certificates and gold stars were awarded, with fifty percent of members earning stars for at least fifty Sunday mornings in 1923.

Any nominee wishing to withdraw should notify the nomination committee via Mrs. Connor Mrs. Heaslip or Mrs. Struthers. otherwise, their name stands for election at the annual meeting Friday February 1 at 3 30 p.m. in the Ramsay Wright building.
The eleventh annual gathering at Town Hall heard Foster Home Secretary Wm. Murray report 136 children cared for since May 1914. Of these 102 wards remain under care, with 67 in foster homes and 22 in shelter, among others. Treasurer Mrs. Maud E. Gray announced receipts of 4020.27 and expenditures 3903.32, with a planned Feb drive to raise funds for continued care and training of neglected children.
Miss Hazel Connor's rink won the knockout contest. The team includes Miss Pearson, Miss Alice Connor, Mrs Grubb, with Miss Connor as skip. They plan a Town Hall dance on Thursday the 17th and are preparing for the bonspiel next month.
A Friday conference at the Municipal Hall hosted by the Weeds Commission Representatives Henderson and Batho discussed amendments to the Noxious Weeds Act with local farmers including Robt. Ferguson Donald McPhee and others Reeve McCorvie chaired The session urged farmers to act as their own weed inspectors criticizing past methods and underscoring diversified farming as a path to control and prevent disaster
The Public Works Committee awarded three gravel delivery contracts. Contract A covers 256 yards at 1.20 per cubic yard to M. Kemp for dump delivery at the C N R roundhouse. Contract B covers 500 yards at 1.20 per cubic yard to Felker & Brewer for delivery at the end of First avenue N.E. Contract C covers 750 yards at 1.15 per cubic yard to Mc Kee Brothers for delivery on the road allowance southwest of town.
Miss Deborah J Prout of 5233 Pasadena avenue died Monday at home from heart failure after bronchial pneumonia. Found dead by friend Mrs Eyldridge. Charter member of OES and Royal Court OAO Associate Matron. Heir Grover L Smith of Dauphin Plains. Nephew travels from Canada for funeral. Ebell club notes tribute by Mrs Harry Louis Stroh.
St Pauls parish held its annual meeting Monday with Archdeacon Thomas presiding in the absence of Rev. J. A. Cousins who is en route from England. Reports showed good work across departments and finances better than last year. Mr G H Crimes, the people s warden, was praised for his capable leadership and organist duties. Vestry elections were postponed until the rector arrives for a mutual meeting with new parishioners.
The Dauphin Musical Society performs Mendelssohn Elijah at Dauphin Theatre on the 23rd in a full production with soloists R T Halliley Gertrude Newton Mrs Ernest Mills Bradley and Winnipeg artists. Ronald Gibson accompanies on organ with Mrs R Hamilton at the piano.

The formal opening of the Rose Tea Room will be in charge of the Women's Hospital Aid Society on Friday afternoon January 18. Everyone is welcome at Marsh's old stand.
The Swan River Poultry Show opens today with about 100 birds from Dauphin fanciers including E. H. Walker Wm Murray G. R. Watson R. R. McLean and John T. Taylor who has resigned as Massey Harris agent. Victory Chapter No 6 held a 50 attendee service at the Presbyterian church and Rev Philip Duncan preached.
The Women’s Hospital Aid Society gratefully acknowledge donations from the ladies of Valley River. They contributed 6 dozen eggs 42 quarts fruit and pickles 6 lbs butter 2 feather pillows and 1 dollar in money.
Presbyterian anniversary services are announced for Sunday January 20. Dauphin hosts a Poultry Show running January 22 to 24. The Dauphin Musical Society presents Elijah on Wednesday January 23.
At Dauphin General Hospital Jan 13 a daughter to Mr and Mrs Strand Gilbert Plains. Jan 11 a son to Mr and Mrs James Cooke Barrows Junction. A son to Mrs Bruce Skinner. Jan 12 a daughter to Mr and Mrs Wm Morley. Allan Gardner Church wed Jennie Frances Lock at the bride’s home with Rev D Ritchie. Michael Chorny formerly of Dauphin dies aged 74 in Portage la Prairie.

The first meeting of the Literary Society was held in the auditorium last Friday. The afternoon featured Grade xb dialogues and songs by Grade xb girls and boys, a violin solo by Crispin Tyndale, and Jazz Band selections. Professor Osborne will lecture January 30 on The Present World Situation and a town hall is being arranged. Hockey teams from Collegiate and Normalites meet at Tyndale's rink with Jim McMaster as goalie and E Bennett C Willis as defenders. Dixon, teaching in Saskatchewan, returns to Grade xii while Jack McQuigge attends Grade ix at the D.C.I. Rachael Simpson starts Grade ix studies.
S Bailey of Fork River describes a violin bought in Perth Lanark in 1863 that has remained in his possession for 26 years and still furnishes music for old-timers. He references Gavin Strang and Charles McDonald in the Herald.
The L. O. B. A. hosts a Leap Year Dance at the W. V. A. hall on Friday January 18 with lunch served. McMurray orchestra provides music and admission is 55 cents. Everyone is invited.
