Ramblers and Falcons Star in Midget Hockey Clash

In a chilly Wednesday league night, the Dauphin Collegiate beat the CNR 7 5 in a fast paced school level match. Graham Murray scored three for Collegiate, with Churchill and Clif Weir strong on defense. Bonar Whaley netted twice for the CNR, while Young Geo May and Bud Thompson stood out on forward. The Ramblers defeated the Falcons 5 2 behind Jack Gardner’s goalkeeping and key plays by Mulligan and Murray. Collegiate also played Ochre River last Friday in a spirited road game praised for sportsmanship and open rink action.

Town Opens Wood Camp at Riding Mountain

The Town of Jau phin opened a wood cutting camp at Riding Mountain this week. A 14 by 24 lumber shanty was built last week under Superintendent Brinkman. Councillor Bennett, head of Police and Relief, oversees relief and plans to send two men to the camp this week.

Gilbert Plains Farmer Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

Tired Gilbert Plains farmer, a wheat grower 15 miles southeast of Gilbert Plains, was found dead January 12. Death by his own action was believed. He was discovered by his brother. His wife had been hospitalized, possibly weighing on him. He leaves four elementary children, his parents, and four sisters and four brothers. Dr. Rogers, Dauphin coroner, and Constable Kinpeck investigated. circumstances pointed to self destruction and no inquest was held.

Fire Hits Port Johnson Tarber Shop on Front Street

A Thursday fire at Port Johnson's tarber shop on Front Street caused extensive damage to furniture and tools. The blaze origin is unknown, but it quickly threatened nearby businesses including Mr. Mo Zworech's shop, with damages nearing one hundred ninety dollars. The fire brigade battled the flames and confined the damage to the shop interior.

Young Ashville Girl Injured In Scalding Incident

Five year old Elizabeth Dayko daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Dayko of Ashville was severely scalded when she pulled a pot of boiling water onto herself on Monday. Dr Potesk was summoned and parents applied black ink as first aid while the child lay in Dauphin General Hospital in precarious condition.

Ladies' Aid of Dauphin United Church Meets in January

The annual meeting on January 8 with seven members present reviewed six months since union. The treasurer reported a $110.76 bank balance. Retiring president Mrs. Craig was honored for her service. Officers include President Mrs. D Hamilton and treasurer Mrs. R Arcue with multiple committee conveners named.
