Care of Dauphin Unemployed Cost Over $60 000

Committees Named By Rural Council At First Meeting
The Rural Municipality of Dauphin held its 1937 organizational meeting in the Rural Municipal Hall on January 5 and 6. Oaths were administered to Councillors Durston Sawczyn and Szewczyk as the reeve presided. The council set committees on public works bridges police and sanitation and appointed Owens McFadden and Ramsden as solicitors at a $40 retaining fee.

Mrs. Jane Shepard 78 Dies After 32 Years in Dauphin
Mrs. Jane Shobbrooke Shepard of Dauphin aged 78 died Tuesday noon from natural causes. Born December 3 1858 in Bow Devon England she moved to Canada in 1903 and settled in Dauphin. She and husband B J Shepard raised four nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday January 15 at 1 30 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev D Ritchie officiating.

Ukrainians Observe Christmas in Dauphin District Festivities
Ukrainians of Dauphin and district observed Christmas with Holy Night prayers and 12-dish feasts marking Christmas and St. Mary’s and St. Stephen’s Days. A Christmas Mass at St George Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church was led by Rev. P Zaparyniuk followed by carolers. A Ukrainian People’s Home concert featured carols recitations and mandolin music, with St Nicholas handing out gifts to children. Arrangements were by Jack Yurkin and Alex Cottick.

Contractor For Town Dam Makes Claim For 10000 Above Original Estimate
A Dauphin town council special meeting reviewed William Newman's claim for about 10000 extra for the dam project. Engineers’ figures differ from Newman's measurements, and a full recheck will be provided to satisfy the contractor. Also approved a woven wire fence at the river power house yard and granted truck hauling limits to town residents starting January 9. The Court of Revision for the business tax assessment is set for January 21 at 7:30.
