Christmas Mail Flows Through Dauphin Post Office
Dauphin post office personnel faced peak Christmas workload with 3 percent of annual mail arriving on the Monday before Christmas. About 153 mail bags and 27 bags of letter mail were filled, up to 4,000 pieces per bag. From Dec 15 to Christmas 1,200 bags were received and 800 sent out. Dauphinites mailed 100 000 letters in ten days, stamp sales topped 5 657 dollars. Money orders and postal notes issued, 5 507. Of 3 500 registered articles, 1 125 en route elsewhere. About 7 500 third class pieces processed, versus 2 000 in 1947 December. Town council grants rink rental for four days at 50 dollars daily to curling club bonspiel committee.

Skating Arena Reports Strong December Revenue Rise

Local Milk Shortage Reported By Dairy Inspector
Dairy inspector Dr. O. McGuirk reports Dauphin area milk supply shortfall met by outside sources. Three large local herds have ceased production, with over 5000 pounds needed daily for two local dairies. Supplementary milk comes from Ste. Rose, Winnipegosis, Grandview, and Kamsack, supplying 1,885 pounds daily. 21 Dauphin-area herds provide the rest.
