Fire destroyed a Winnipegosis garage used by S and S Motors amid unknown origin. Chamber Of Commerce Acted To Save Dauphin Northern Flights
The Dauphin Chamber of Commerce moved quickly to block TransAir from removing Dauphin from the Northern Manitoba run. A five member committee will meet TransAir officials to discuss Dauphin’s needs, with a meeting sought for Thursday morning. TransAir had planned a revised winter schedule effective Jan 10, but canceled the change after chamber contact.

Suites remain in a new seniors home reported by Mrs D A Ross. One double suite accommodates wheel chair access with wider doors and extra bathroom room. Eight single suites unfurnished except for stove and refrigerator, with ample cupboards. Rents are 45 dollars for singles and 57 dollars for doubles. A plaque will honor individuals and organizations who contributed to the building and furnishing funds.

Professor Leonard Isaacs to adjudicate festival in Dauphin
Executive members of the Dauphin Music Festival expect Professor Leonard Isaacs to serve as adjudicator for the festival set for April 27 to 30 in Dauphin. Isaacs, director of the University of Manitoba School of Music, has a long record including Royal College of Music studies and BBC tenure. He conducted for Ivor Novello and led music broadcasts to occupied Europe during WWII. He toured Canadian festivals as an adjudicator in 1953 and 1957, with further visits in 1960, 1962, and 1963.

Rural Fire Brigade Responds To Nighttime Blaze
In subfreezing weather at 12:48 am on January 7 a volunteer fire unit rushed to Art Ferrs's home, found a heated vegetable storage building alight, and contained the blaze by 2:50 am after a two hour effort. Fire Chief Gordon Harrison noted a cold, committed crew and Civil Defence support.

Pine River marks its 100th automatic dial office in Manitoba rural area with a Dial Demonstration on January 18 at Fine River Ukrainian Peoplesome. John R. Morgan was re-elected chairman of the Dauphin-Ochre Area school board for his second year, with C. Beck elected vice-chairman and Cecil R. Durston retiring.
