Manitoba LCC names two new members Ernest McGirr and Arthur Chipman
Ernest McGirr QC and Arthur J Chipman of Winnipeg are appointed to the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission effective January 1. McGirr, born in Emerson and educated in Morden, has long served as Dauphin town solicitor and represented Dauphin in the Manitoba legislature from 1949 to 1953. The commission, a three member body formed in 1956, is chaired by Major General NE Rodger.

March of Dimes House Canvass Set for Jan 16
Dauphin Oddfellows and Rebekahs unite for the annual March of Dimes drive in Manitoba. On Monday January 16 volunteers will canvass nine residential areas, urged to light porch lamps at 6 pm to welcome them. The campaign aims at $3,000 for the Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Manitoba with 70 volunteers needed.

Enrollment data show rural students access to secondary education increased after the new system. For 1959 331 total, 68 percent rural. 1960 total 424 with 289 rural, aided by 10 bus routes and 5 private vans serving multiple districts.

New Collegiate In Use Work Progress In Two Towns
The Ethelbert and Winnipegosis collegiates progress on schedule. Ethelbert students moved into new classrooms as the term opened in January. Winnipegosis facility should be occupiable in about three weeks. Both schools have 12 rooms including six classrooms a library a laboratory a principal's office a teachers room and an auditorium with kitchen and dressing rooms. Isadore Pacholok was elected in ward 2 to fill a one year vacancy from Wm Paziuk’s resignation. Re-elected board members for two years are Peter Bewski ward 2 and Sigurdsson ward 4S and Walter Tuer ward 6. Others with one year remaining are Mike Czarnecki ward 1 Amnie Menard ward 3 and D M Slobodzian ward 5. Mrs WB Smith of Winnipegosis is secretary treasurer of the school division.

W. T. Volkers Re-elected Chairman of Area Board
W T Volkers was re elected chairman of the Dauphin Ochre Area school board at the last Wednesday statutory meeting. He will serve a second year as chairman, with CR Durston as vice chairman and fellow trustees Allard Wolff Morgan Matthews and Beek guiding committees including Finance Management Building and Grounds and Transportation. The board reviewed the 1960 year, noted tax increases to cover higher teacher salaries, and discussed consolidation trends, new buses, school openings, and plans with Indian affairs to add eight classrooms and an auditorium at Whitmore school to serve 150 students.

John L. Tycholis was reelected chairman of the Dauphin School District No. 905 board at the January 4, 1961 inaugural meeting. Trustees for the two year term are John J. Tycholis George Fisher and Doug Johnston with Mrs W E Barber named vice chairwoman.
