Dr. C. S. Robertson was re elected chairman of the Dauphin School board at the statutory organization meeting. Alfred Skinner was named trustee for 1945 46 and D D Grant became secretary treasurer to replace W P Wright. Committees were appointed with Robertson chairing Finance and Management among others. A 1944 financial report shows a total budget of 812 263 55 with higher than expected costs in several areas.

Soldier Ernest Burr Injured Overseas in World War II
Pte. Ernest James Burr of a Northern Ontario unit reported injured in action overseas. He enlisted after farming in Dauphin and went overseas in September 1942. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Burr of Dauphin, his wife lives in Port Arthur, Ontario.

RCAF Benevolent Fund Names Dauphin Subcommittee Chair
The provincial RCAF Benevolent Fund appoints Alex Katz KC as chair of a Dauphin subcommittee with A J Folkersen and A Rusconi assisting. The panel will pass on applications to the provincial body and recommend deserving applicants as needed. Wounded Douglas son noted twice in war
Wounded Pte Harold Reginald Douglas, son of Wounded Douglas Company and Mrs William M Douglas, has been notified as wounded for the second time. His age is 24. he enlisted at 19 in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and went overseas in 1941, serving with Central Mediterranean forces after recovery from Falaise battle injuries.

Faulty Heating System Under Repair at Whitmore School
Fire brigade was called twice in a week to the Whitmore school basement near the hot air furnaces. A wooden beam above the chamber caught fire from heat escaping through a wall opening. authorities will replace it with a metal beam, with repairs taking two to three days and classes suspended for two days while attendance credits are preserved.

Records from the local post office for December 18 to 25 show 1 500 bags of second class mail and about 15 000 parcels passing through Dauphin. First class mail totals reached 75 190 for December 15 to 31 with postage stamps sales at 5 668.45 dollars and money order sales up 300 from 1943.

Dauphin's Star Soldier Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel
Hershell A. Smith, first Dauphin native to reach lieutenant colonel in this war, was promoted while with the Canadian army overseas. A Royal Military College graduate, he turned 25 on January 21 and earned the Military Cross for action at Ortona in December 1943. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Smith.
