The January 7 regular session of the town council, led by Mayor McDonald, addressed tax refunds under The Soldier's Taxation Relief Act, board appointments, and requests from the Board of Trade. Dauphin Triumphs In Senior Exhibition Over Swan River 6-3

Dauphin seniors defeated Swan River hockey club 6 to 3 in a Friday exhibition here. Gardner played well in Dauphin nets and G May led with a goal and three assists while Swan River’s Bierworth struggled in net. A return game is set for January 12 in Swan River.

Hospital Aid Elects Officers At Ochre River Annual Meeting

The Hospital Aid of Dauphin held its annual meeting in the town hall on Wednesday afternoon January 2. Officers elected for 1935 include President Mrs W D King and Secretary Mrs R M Smith. The treasurer reported 1934 receipts of 506.70 and disbursements of 463.85 with a year end balance of 99.67.

Night of Fun Promised at Arena Next Tuesday

The Hockey Association sponsors a big night of fun at the Arena on January 15. For twenty five cents, juniors receive supervised sports and entertainment including hockey, broomball, racing, wrestling, folk dances, boxing, clowns, music and tap dancing by George McGee’s pupils.

Death of Former Dauphin Resident

Funeral services were held at St. Viator's church Dauphin for John David Clemens who died January 4 at St. Boniface hospital. Born in Jeanette Pennsylvania in 188% he moved to Dauphin district in 1909. He worked farming Grandview elevator Fork River hotel McCreary and railway work at The Pas. Severely Burned Farmer Dies After Stove Fire

Frederick Jones 63, an elderly farmer living near Ochre River, died at Ochre River Nursing Home after clothes caught fire from a cook stove Saturday. He was critically burned, extinguished by himself with neighbors finding him in a pitiful state. His wife died last November and one foster child survives. Authorities seek other relatives.

Dauphin Council Names Committees for 1935

After an adjourned meeting on January 2 the Dauphin town council formed its 1935 committees. Finance chaired by Solomon. Utility chaired by Marsh. Health Relief and Police chaired by Watson. Worship chaired by McDonald with ex officio status across all groups. McDonald and Solomon will represent on the Dauphin Agricultural Society board. McDonald on the rest room board.

Relief Camps for Single Men Reopened in Manitoba

Col. G C MacLean says Riding Mountain camps will reopen to provide work for single unemployed men in Manitoba. Instructions came from Minister T G Murphy. Camps first opened in 1932, housed up to 1200 men, and will operate on the same basis with men receiving five dollars per month.

McFadden Elected Dauphin School Board Chairman for 1935

J N McFadden was chosen chair of the Dauphin school board at the January 2 1935 meeting succeeding W G White who served three years. New members Gladys Watt and W J Easterbrook welcomed while rural ratepayers rep H Izon filled a vacancy. Board plans include joint meetings with teachers and reestablishment of a parent teacher organization.
