The Dauphin Fire Brigade held a Saturday dinner at Rex Cafe to honor two retiring members Il Fagen and C Smith after 23 and 22 years of service. Chief Archie Hoy spoke then Asst Claudel H V Smith presented a ring to Fagen and a locket and chain to Smith, with both replying gracefully. Several members recalled notable incidents from years past.

St Andrew's Society Hog Manay Party Ends Old Year
Members and friends of the St Andrews Society gathered at Elks Hall to welcome the New Year with song and dance. Mrs James Craig sang an old Scots tune before midnight as pipers led a procession and all joined in Auld Lang Syne. The MacMurrey orchestra provided music for reels and dances into the early hours.

Dauphin Debating Club Elects Officers at St James Church
The Dauphin Men's Debating Club met Monday night at St James Church. Officers elected include President K C Robinson and Vice President W J Fawcett with E O Chase secretary treasurer. A violin solo by D Campbell and a reading from Thucydides were presented. The next meeting will be January 12 at St James Church to draft the constitution and hear a debate on Toronto's city actions.

Former Dauphin resident Emma Bettes dies in Calgary on December 24 at age 72. Funeral held December 27 at Wesley United Church with Rev T T Faichney officiating. Pallbearers included J P Johnson L A Masterman Matt Perry Max Kabeck Guy Bowen and Dr J G Anderson. Survived by son two brothers one sister and a stepdaughter. She was born near Uxbridge Ont and married Elihu Pease in 1490, later widow in Grenfell Sask, then married James Whitney Bettes of Winnipeg. The Laurel Hardy Murder Case shown at Dauphin Theatre Monday and Tuesday.
