The Herald reports a new local ration board with office at the Town Hall serving 9 to 5 weekdays and 9 to 1 on Saturday, covering Mossy River and Winnipegosis. Volunteers handle ration problems to enforce wartime restrictions and issue temporary ration cards to armed forces and visitors.
All butter producers must register with the Wartime Prices and Trade board under the December 21 order. Producers selling butter must collect coupons and file documents with the nearest rationing office by January 31. Consumers using butter in their own homes should not use coupons for more and new baby ration book applications will be handled locally. The board serves as an information bureau to direct issues for corrective action.
The Air Force Cross honors Wing Cmdr. Bruce Middleton a former Dauphinite with FLC.AF Ottawa. Wing Cmdr. RK F Gibb at No 7 B&GS receives award. Fo1t Bruce Beat at No 16 B.F.TS. PO Norman Head overseas, brother of Dauphin’s George Reid. Commendations for non-operational air services go to Wing Cmdr. R. E. Dupont, RAF, and PO Joan Ratin formerly of No 103 FTS, overseas.
Allied headquarters announced small detachments of Canadian troops arrived in North Africa marking a shift toward action after more than three years of warfare. Military sources in London said the fighting would be on a smaller scale and not as large unit participation.
Alexander Katz of Dauphin, born in Ethelbert Manitoba in 1896, was appointed King’s Counsel in a provincial New Year’s honor list. A lawyer since 1919, he helped form McGirr and Katz, led the Dauphin Parks board, and chaired the local air cadet committee. He married Pearl Berg in 1920 and has two children, Muriel and Avron.
The council of the Town of eistehlane appoints J. Puchalski as chair across multiple departments for 1943. D E McLean chairs Fire Water and Light with J Taylor as vice. Puchalski Solomon Hutchison on Public Works. S Solo directs Police Health and Relief with new Parks board member Del Snodgrass replacing retired C D Bates. Children's Aid Society represented by S Solomon. The rest room board is to be recommended and Agricultural Society is represented by D Justice. After a short discussion the council will meet again on Jan 14.
The HMCS Dauphin corvette displays a crest showing a Mountie riding a battered U boat, reflecting its western link. Commander R A C MacNeil and a subordinate officer left the RCMP to join the navy. They were awarded King Haakon’s Royal Norwegian war medal for gallantry.
The Wings Parade is set for Friday afternoon at 3 o clock at No. 7 B and G8. Wing Cmdr. R. P. Gibb will present badges to the graduating class. Dauphin citizens are warmly invited to attend.

Germans retreat west of Mozdok to delay pursuit.
The committee is headed by H. L. Williams with J. M. Borowski as treasurer. To date the sum of $199.76 has been sent to headquarters in Winnipeg for the fund and contributions may be left at local Winnipegasis stores.
The Royal Canadian Mint begins issuing a new 12 sided five cent piece to be called the Victory Nickel. The coin features the V for Victory and a Victory Torch to symbolize sacrifice toward victory, replacing the Beaver Nickel issued six months earlier.
Tillie Trendiac Philip Leonard Basil Clary and Bill Bridgett winners of the Tribune fall contest for rural carriers were guests of The Tribune in the city for four days last week. S. V. Brickman local distributor organized the visit.
The fire brigade responded twice this week to fires at homes of Mrs. A. Nykolaishen on Seventh Avenue S.W. and Mrs. E. Porter on Fourth Avenue S.W. Both incidents confined to chimneys and pipes with no serious damage reported.
Local post office reports December sales of war savings stamps and certificates rose notably from prior months with gifts as a key driver during the Christmas period.
Hockey fans prepare for a Friday night opener at 8 o clock between No 10 S F T S and Paulson B and G school at the Dauphin arena. Tickets sold at several local outlets with many reserved for town fans. The event includes player introductions and a feature skating display by LAW Kay Tynan. The Dauphin Army team starts play Monday.
