Goodwill Supper For Elderly Dauphin Residents A Success
A goodwill supper for elderly residents of Dauphin was held at the Salvation Army hall on December 28. Twenty five guests were served by the Home League after a turkey dinner at 6 pm. The Army band provided an entertainment program, with candy gifts and scriptural calendars. The oldest guest, Mrs Isherwood 87, received a Christmas cake. J G McPhee Lions club president attended as guest of honor and Lions provided transportation.

Yuletide Freeze Drives Up Local Fuel Bills
The local mercury dropped to more than 30 degrees below zero during the Yuletide vacation, sending householders’ fuel bills higher as families faced colder weather and greater heating demand.
Rural Youth Training Class Registration At Whitmore School
Registration for the Dauphin rural youth training school was held on the Whitmore school top floor. Enrolment includes 35 boys in agricultural classes and 36 girls in the full home making class. The ten week program is led by Joan Conner with permanent staff Guy Parker Norah Cherry and Merceline Johnson. D. B. Moorhead oversees citizenship. Lectures will be given by Edna McConnel T J Harrison and S L Tallman, with more specialists to be invited for weekly talks. An advisory committee coordinates with Dominion and Provincial governments.

Siddle Couple Die in Yuletide Toll Dauphin
Obituary notes death of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Siddle of Dauphin during the Christmas season. Funeral services for Mr. Siddle were held January 3 at Lodge's Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. D. K. Burns officiating. Mrs. Siddle, Agnes Mable Farrell, had services December 28 with pallbearers listed. Mr. Siddle, a CN R employee and Brotherhood of Trainmen member, was born in 52 years ago Stratford Ont and moved to Dauphin district in 1918. he had brothers William and Frank and sister Mrs. E. Warren. Agnes Mable Farrell, born Neepawa 42 years ago, married Fred J. Siddle in 1921. she is survived by brother Robert Farrell and sisters Mrs. Frank Graham and Mrs. Wm. Winters.

Death of John Wesley Evans in Peoria
John Wesley Evans age 61 formerly of Dauphin died in Peoria Illinois on Monday January 2. Evans served as a bandsman with the 44th Battalion Dauphin during the war. Funeral rites were held by the Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife Winnipeg two daughters Beryl and Winnipeg Annie of Dauphin his mother Mrs John Evans a nun Dauphin four sisters Mrs Jas Hume Mrs H M Watson both of Dauphin Mrs Alec McGregor Winnipeg and Mrs George Whaley Creewood.

Funeral services for W. Clif ford Kaleden BC held December
Funeral services for W. Clif ford were held in Kaleden on December 10 with burial at Penpicton cemetery. The Rev J Herbison led the Canadian Legion service. Clifford died December 7 in Penpicton hospital after a long illness. Born in London England in 1881 he married Miss E M. (Continued on Page 4 Col 5). Tourism in Riding Mountain Park shows growth in 1939 with Riding Mountain National Park hosting 124 459 visitors an increase of 7 206 from 1937 and US visitors up 40 percent.

Ukrainians of the Greek Orthodox and Ukrainian Greek Catholic faith will mark Christmas on Saturday January 7 according to the Julian calendar. The observances include a twelve course Christmas Eve supper with frumenti, hay for the manger, carol singing after the first star, and visits from Santa Claus or St. Nicholas for children.
