The Mintos draw strong local support after a New Year display. Owner Steve Ruzinsky has built a talented, well behaved team that excites Dauphin fans. A Friday game against Weyburn at DMCC arena draws many devoted hockey followers.

University artists slated for Dauphin concert

Three University of Manitoba musicians Dr Peeny Sampson cellist Sind aug Sigurdson pianist and Orville Derraugh baritone will perform at Mackenzie School auditorium in Dauphin on Monday January 15. Peter Sampson with a doctor of music degree from Edinburgh is noted for CBC performances. seg vie son, a Times Hall Carnegie Hall and Town Hall recitalist, also appears on CBC. Derrauth, a Winnipeg concert singer and Filmer Trubble choristers member, will perform sacred classical and folk selections.

Reeve Recaps 1961 for Dauphin Municipality

Reeve thanks Dauphin electors for a 16 year term and notes drought hit the area hard in 1961. PFRA aid assisted farmers, grain shortages were addressed, and grain held in local elevators. The municipality financed road equipment, avoided debt, and expanded fire protection and senior services.

In a 1961 accomplishments summary the mayor reflects on a busy year and lists proposals for paving, a downtown lot, industrial development, town hall repairs, boundary expansions, a seniors home, and a permanent emergency water source. A by election will fill the late Councillor Love’s vacancy. Tax levy for 1961 was $478 with a small surplus anticipated.

The Rural Municipality of Dauphin set up 62 committees at its January 2, 1962 statutory meeting. Reeve John Potoski and councillors listed include Wm McClernon, P F Sainsbury, J P Bank, J R Secord, Mike Prokopowich, and Stanley Prokopchuk. Deputy reeve named was Wm McClernon.

Delinquent Householders Warned as Count-Down to Mail Delivery Starts

Dauphin postal officials report a 70 percent readiness for new letter carrier service with 10 percent more to go. Any homes lacking mailboxes risk being skipped when six day six routes begin. Door to door delivery will reach Fuller street and Edward avenue area. group boxes will serve scattered homes within 40 yard call distances.

Camperville Public School Repaired After Major Fire

The three room Camperville Public School is set to finish repairs within a week with an oil heating system added. A mid November auxiliary room fire caused heavy smoke damage and $8000 to $10000 in losses. teachers and residents contained the blaze until Winnipegosis firefighters aided the effort. Repairs were contracted to Art Erickson of Winnipegosis.

The last week of December was mild with 5 of an inch of snow and the month totals 4.2 inches of snow. Mean max 7.1 and mean min -13.3 with a coolest day of December 14 at -32 and warmest on Christmas Day at 31. Wind averaged 10.4 mph with a peak of 36 mph on Christmas Day from the west.

Christmas Calls Reach New Peak in Manitoba

Manitoba Telephone System reports a record Christmas telephony surge with over 12 000 long distance messages on the day. Dauphin saw a 23 percent rise over last year, with most calls heading to British Columbia and Alberta. Manitoba routes up 11 percent. delays were minimal despite some trans Canada circuit congestion. Seventeen Dauphin operators managed the rush.

Town Council approves 1962 committee listings

Town council at a statutory meeting set up four standing committees for 1962. Mayor Mobberley named D W Hnatiuk deputy mayor and N W Shwets assistant deputy mayor pending by election Jan 26 to fill council vacancy from E L Love. Several appointments await completion and include planning, cemetery board, and public works.

Town Council By-Election Called For The 1961-62 Term

By election called to fill the Town Council balance of the 1961-62 term. Civic election day would be Friday January 26 if a poll is required. Candidates must be sponsored by two electors, be property owners, and obtain a qualifications certificate from town secretary treasurer Eric C Day. Certificates must be obtained within seven days before nomination and before 12 noon on nomination day. Nomination papers may be filed Tuesday January 16 between 10 am and 2 pm.

Shades Of Dauphin Celebrate Dual Anniversaries In Local Party

Dauphin marked two anniversaries in one program as it closed its 60th year and observed its incorporation as a town. At a Christmas party for 147 seniors, models depicted historical feminine fashion and conduct, photographed after a performance of cutting the rug with participants named Mrs. J. A. Clarke narrator and others including Mrs. J. A. Williams Mrs. A. E. Rea Mrs. W. H. Brown Mrs. Ernie Dixon and Mrs. G. Fulkerson.

Judicial Boundaries Report Seeks Northern Manitoba Districts

A provincial commission led by Chief Justice C C Miller urges creation of a separate northern judicial district and three county court districts plus a land titles district. It proposes reducing Manitoba’s 63 county districts to 22 and consolidating Queen’s Bench districts to five with new regional centers at Brandon Portage la Prairie Dauphin The Pas and Winnipeg. It also redesigns land titles districts by adding The Pas and removing Carman.

CN Appoints Area Sales Manager Hirst for Deneton National Railways

K B F Hirst was named area sales manager for the Deneton National Railways Hudson Way Area with headquarters in Dauphin. He succeeds D J Sebastian, promoted to Montreal. A Moose Jaw native and WW II RCAF veteran, Hirst joined CNR in 1940, rising from messenger boy to yard clerk, later serving in freight roles and as Yorkton branch sales manager.
