Intermediate Game To Aid Red Cross In Dauphin

Dauphin intermediate hockey team hosts Swan River on Friday in a Red Cross benefit game. The event, sponsored by the rink, the Dauphin Hockey Association, and the Intermediate Hockey Club, supports a national Red Cross drive. Dauphin aims to defend its lead after a 10-3 Boxing Day win in Swan River, their first meeting in two years.

Stan’s Christmas Spirit Investment Ends In Conviction

Stan invested $50 in home brew labeled Christmas spirit but faced losses. While driving with ten gallons he got stuck in a snowdrift and was arrested after a police officer found contraband in his car. He spent Christmas in jail and was later convicted with a $100 war tax and court costs.

Farmer Shot in Leg in Manitoba District Fray

Melvin Paziuk, a district farmer near Ethelbert, suffered a 22 caliber bullet wound to the back of the left knee in a Monday shooting five miles southwest of Ethelbert. Neighbor George Dzisiak, 18, was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding, remanded to Jan. 4. His brother Peter, 21, was present. Paziuk is recovering at Dauphin General Hospital.

Junior High School Proposal by Dauphin Inspector

Bernard Warkentin acting inspector of Dauphin schools urged converting Grades 7 and 8 to the McKenzie school to form a junior high. Some lower grades could remain for beginners, aiding French and the new Grades 7 to 9 science course while smoothing transitions to high school.

Christmas Cheer Hampers Distributed in Dauphin

More than 90 Christmas Cheer hampers were distributed in Dauphin by the Citizens' Welfare Association with $170 in donations from individuals. Other groups assisted, aiding families in need as school construction affected incomes. Donations unacknowledged include Rev H E Bridgett $5 and Alexandra Rebekah lodge $5.

Damage suit against Dauphin town dismissed for damages

Mrs. Ronald Paul sued the Town of Dauphin for injuries from a February 14 fall on a street, seeking 2500 general and 163 special damages. Justice A K Dysart dismissed the case on December 19 with costs to the plaintiff, noting a small spot of ice or packed snow on a crossing.
