CN Offices Move to Ren Across Froncation

Canadian National Railways staff receive new offices in Ren across Froncation with shifts from Second Avenue NE and station buildings. The renovated CN building at the station houses accounting, freight and passenger sales, and various staff heads, while the station’s main floor hosts engineering, transportation, equipment, and employee relations offices. A new 38-car parking area and pastels color the interiors, with photos of scenic CN trips on the walls.

Dauphin Town Builds Record Year in 1963 Permits

Final 1963 building-permit figures show Dauphin's engineering office tracking strong economic progress with 126 permits totaling $1,034,689 by Dec 27 and November December adding $106,500. Dwelling units dominated the year with 59 new homes accounting for $648,500 and major permits include Macneill school addition, Whitmore school expansion, and hospital projects.

Winter Works Parks Policy Announced

Riding the Dauphin town council received a winter works program update at the December 19 meeting. Hon. Arthur Laing minister of northern affairs and national resources spoke, detailing policy measures. Continued on page.

Weather Turns Mild Then Snow Follows Holiday Chill

The report notes a 77 degree spread with a high of 43 and a low of -34. Christmas brought 1.8 inches of snow, 26th added 1.3 inches, aiding moisture before spring. Monday brought a mild 10 degrees while Winnipeg stayed well below zero. Best wishes for 1964.

Christmas Day Busy for MTS Operators in Dauphin

The Manitoba Telephone System reported Christmas Day as the peak for long distance calls. In Dauphin 1662 calls were handled, up 41 percent from 1962, with Boxing Day at 764 calls and the farthest call going to Louisiana. Montreal and Vancouver handled international calls, and 20 Dauphin operators managed the rush. New Year’s Eve is expected to bring another peak at midnight.

ARDA Plans Discussed For Dauphin Area

A 19-member group from Dauphin area organizations met in the rural council chambers on Monday to discuss ARDA the Agricultural Revitalization and Development Act program. They planned a Dauphin area development committee and explored how the community could fit into the program with assistance from Vincent Polloway and Al Kristjanson. Represented groups included the Dauphin Agricultural Society Rural Municipality Town Council Game and Fish Association Co-operative Elevators Manitoba Farm Union Chamber of Commerce Honey Producers Dauphin Milk Producers Association Industrial Development Committee Manitoba Pool Elevators and Credit Unions.

House Damaged In Early Morning Fire

A 5:15 a.m. blaze damaged John Mazur's home at 21 Twelfth Avenue SW, believed to start from overheated stove pipes. Neighbors sheltered Mazur, who lives alone, after the $1,000 loss with no insurance on building or contents.
