Winter Fair Opens At Dauphin On March Fourth
The Dauphin Agricultural Society hosts its annual Winter Fair starting Tuesday morning March 4 with registration and a short course. Ten seed grain classes include wheat barley oats clover alfalfa. prizes awarded for top scores and team work. Lecturers include professors Herner Sommerfeld and Harrison along with J A McGregor and H E Wood. events run through Friday evening with banquet prize presentations and a town hall dance.

Funeral for William J. Free Held at United Church
William J. Free died at his residence on Tuesday evening February 18 after a short illness. A Masonic service was led by Rev. J. A. Lousley at the United Church with many CN R fellow employees in attendance. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery with pallbearers James McIntosh J Biles S Benson Dr McMillan Geo Johnson and Fred Leach. Born in Kingston Ontario in 1879 he came west in 1903 joining the Canadian Northern Railway. He lived in Dauphin for years and, for the last three, Neepawa. Surviving are his wife a daughter Lida three sisters Mrs B B Rikley Petersborough Ontario Mrs Robt Ballantyne Pittsburgh Ontario and Mrs Charles Kittycack Kenmore New York Two brothers Thos of Chicago and Samuel of Hamilton. Beav er Hardware Store Burglary Reported Saturday
Early Saturday morning the Beaver Hardware store was broken into and a small sum of money and other articles were taken. Burglars used a crow bar from the Canadian National railway section men. The culprits broke the front door plate glass and left the crowbar beside the till. police are on the case and seek identification.

Manitoba Horse Hold Annual Military Ball at Armoury
The Manitoba Horse held its third annual military ball at the Armoury on February 2 with about 135 guests. Lt Col McGuirk and Mrs McGuirk hosted with Captain Howell, dancing began at 9:30, and the floor glowed with regimental colors and gowns. Supper followed in a decorated room, the event closing at 1:30 after the National Anthem. Committees led by Major Lys organized decor, music by Mrs Peebles seven-piece orchestra, and various assistants supported by Miss Wallace Armstrong and Miss Roaste.

The Dauphin Lady Curlers resumed play after weather delays. In the Eaton Trophy semi finals Mrs Delmage defeated Mrs Watt and Mrs Morton beat Mrs Mitchell. Mrs Morton’s rink, including C Baker Miss Brownridge Miss Porter and Morton as skip, won the final. The Citizens Trophy semi finals saw Mrs Mitchell over Mrs Campbell and Mrs Delmage over Mrs Morton, with Mrs Derick Mrs Moore Mrs Churchill and Mrs Delmage winning the cup. Blue Ribbon semi finals pitted Mrs Pollen against Mrs Watt and Mrs Delmage against Mrs Mitchell, with Mrs Delmage taking the final. The Consolation final was between Mrs A Katz and Miss Anderson.

The Dauphin midgets defeated Neepawa 3-2 to win the home and home series 5-3 and advance to meet Poplar Point in Friday provincial semi finals. Gardner Mulligan Bob Murray Graham Murray starred for Dauphin while Parrott and Howden led Neepawa. crowd expected a fast game if ice holds.

At Dauphin on February 21 a daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hutchison. Also on February 14 at Dauphin General Hospital a son was born to Mr and Mrs Dmetro Miket of Winnipegosis.
