A rural council committee and a town council contingent discussed re opening negotiations to annex five rural subdivisions. Delegates claim over 95 percent support joining the town, fearing higher taxes if services are not improved. Committees will present points to councils. both Gowanlock and Williams rinks exited Winnipeg bonspiel events.
The agricultural society's fair July 5 6 7 will showcase a $2 250 grandstand program led by a western riding troupe with auto acrobatics trained dogs and the Los Aeros aeroplane thriller. The show runs twice nightly with afternoon possible. Harness racing will fill most afternoons.
The week's temperatures swung about 50 degrees down and 46 degrees up, leaving them near zero. Snowfall stayed under an inch while 33 mph winds on Friday and Monday caused drifts that blocked rural roads.
Government liquor permits expire March 31 as announced to the Herald by the Government Liquor Commission. Permits will be available starting Feb 16, with officials urging early purchase to avoid annual congestion.
The health unit’s 1947 annual report shows 18 TB cases in the year from a October survey, with 13 found in the survey and five more later. deaths were two. It covers births, stillbirths, maternal death, school health exams, hot lunch expansion, vaccination, and environmental sanitation measures in Dauphin area and surroundings.
The Rotary club has obtained a permanent Boy Scout summer camp site on the north shore of Lake Dauphin. At a rural council meeting they requested a road from the Winnipegosis highway to the location. A government grant of 500 was requested with 250 from the municipality and 250 from Massey River municipality. If approved, 1000 would be available to repair the road to the camp, which is said to cover 28 acres.
Mrs. W. R. Cox's foursome won the main event at the ladies bonspiel with 21 rinks sharing prizes. Traffic in the C N R yards stalled four hours after a coal car derailed at the east switch. The derailment was caused by a break in the bar securing both track sets. the front and rear ends ran on different tracks. No injuries were reported.
An interim parks board report shows season tickets $525 and general admission $250 for 1946 47, both down about $50 due to curling bonspiel use in January. Hockey revenue rose to $374 from $230, total water operations revenue $1 040 versus $1 003 last year. 1947 committees named for Parks Boulevards Tourist Camp Skating Rink.
