Groundhog Day Warm Trend Amid Forecast Cold Snap

Police Report Shows Convictions Up Revenues Down
Town police activity rose in the past year with 435 complaints up 100 from the prior year. There were 213 charges laid 193 prosecutions and 198 convictions including 63 provincial liquor convictions six by law and one under the Indian act. Traffic warnings totaled 524 and four shop thefts occurred with three cars stolen and recovered. Fines totaled about 2332 with liquor convictions nearly 1500 of the total.

Committee To Be Appointed For Dauphin Recreation Program
A public meeting in Dauphin approved a five member citizens committee to survey local recreation groups and facilities, study needs across all ages, and prepare immediate and long term plans with financial requirements. School Lights Costs Differ Between Whitmore and Henderson

Loss of 19th Century Lee Farm Fire Destroys Landmark
The Robt. Lee farm home in the Dauphin district, a six room two story structure built about 50 years ago, was gutted by fire Tuesday afternoon. The family escaped uninjured as flames spread from an overheated stove, with only the original log walls and smoldering remains intact. The barn and outbuildings were saved. the Lees are staying with relatives in Dauphin.

1949 Budget Set for Health Unit
Town council received notice from the department of health and welfare that the 1949 health unit budget is 19 750 dollars with the town share 2 107 dollars. Two thirds is funded by the province and the remainder of 6583 dollars is shared by rural municipalities Dauphin Ethelbert Ochre River and Dauphin town based on population. The area population is 14 359 with Dauphin at 4 596.
