Youths Who Passed Worthless Notes Appear In Court

Three local youths faced charges of false pretence for handling a worthless Mexican five peso note as if it were a Canadian five dollar bill. The case describes a conspiracy to commit an indictable offense by passing the counterfeit money in payment for goods.

Gilbert Plains Man Sentenced After Department Store Theft

Mike Nachuk of Gilbert Plains district pleaded guilty to breaking into Cameron's department store and stealing $76.50 worth of merchandise. He received one year with hard labour in police court, the second sentence after a prior three month forgery sentence in 1936.

Boxing Day Trade Board Urges Hudson Bay Route Study

A motion to study ways to boost import and export traffic via the Hudson Bay route will be presented to Manitoba boards of trade at their annual convention after Dauphin Board of Trade action. Efforts aim to rally western boards, with broader support from three provinces. A separate resolution backs Manitoba’s Royal Commission brief on intergovernmental relations. The meeting endorsed a policy for forest reforestation of Riding Mountain National Park and supervised timber removal to create jobs. Discussion also touched on starting a tomato cucumber canning venture, pending ripening feasibility. prior to the meeting the executives enjoyed a buffalo dinner at the Hamilton Hotel.

Dauphin Declares December 27 Holiday for 3 Day Closure

The town of Dauphin will observe Monday December 27 as a holiday under provincial statute marking the day after Christmas. If Christmas falls on Sunday, Monday is declared a holiday. stores will close for three days and housewives are advised to stock groceries and provisions Friday.

Lorna May Dickson died at Flin Flon on December 6 1937 aged 10 months 7 days. Burial followed at Flin Filion on December 8. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Len Dickson.
