By-laws Being Submitted for City Taxpayers December 20

Three money by-laws are up for public vote next Tuesday December 20. The Good Reads By-law funds street graveling under the Good Reads Act with Provincial cost sharing. A 35000 by-law would address delayed accounts and a 6000 yard program partly complete, totaling about 26000 with 15000 for 192223 construction. Officials urge approval to avoid halting the entire public works program. The School By-law follows after trustees’ long planning and investigation.

Brakeman Tuck Killed In Swan River Yard Incident

George F. Tuck, 22, a brakeman born in England and a former soldier, was killed at noon Monday at the Canadian Nations Halfway yards in Swan River after leaping from a Prince Albert freight as it moved into the station. He had lived in Dauphin for about a year. Funeral at Farrell's Undertaking Parlors followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery, with Rev. Philip Duncan officiating.

Beyko Appears, Guilty Of Assault In Vailey Hiver District

Fred Beyko faced P. M. Hawkins on Monday December 12 charged with assaulting Harry Derkacz. He was found guilty and fined $20 with total costs of $46.75. Both individuals hail from the Vailey Hiver district.

Plans for a permanent home for neglected children

At a large directors meeting on Monday afternoon, definite plans were presented to acquire a site and commence building a permanent shelter for dependent children in the northern portion of the province.

Five Nurses Graduate From Local Hospital Program

A Town Hall gathering honored five nursing graduates completing three years of training. Speakers praised hospital progress, urged continued support, and Nurse graduates Hallah ton Webster Isaacovitch Lawrence Lidowsitz Cotter Harrington received diplomas as Rev. Duncan invoked Florence Nightingale. The event ended with light refreshments and a National Anthem.

Pleasant Star Club Dance Draws Many to Town Hall

The Star Club of Victory Chapter Order of the Eastern Star hosted a joyful dance at Town Hall on December 7 with about a hundred couples attending. Festive blue curtains, star motifs, and rosy lighting decorated the hall. McMurray's seven-piece orchestra provided lively music with encores and a cafeteria style lunch followed at midnight.

Fire destroys Mike Derkacz store in Ashville

A Saturday night blaze in Ashville destroyed Mike Derkacz’s store and contents. The owner was in Winnipeg when the fire broke out. Estimated loss about 9000 dollars, with insurance coverage reported as adequate.
