Allied Forces Break Through Across Lamone Front

Canadian troops of the Sth army push two bridgeheads across the Lamone river southwest of Ravenna and link them along a 6000 yard front amid heavy German counterattacks. In London reports, Mosquito bombers set two German merchant vessels on fire along the Norwegian coast, and V-2 projectiles on Antwerp and Liege are described as shorter and heavier. Athens reports Elas forces mounting a full scale attack on a shrinking British pocket in central Athens while British units push to open Piraeus. The American 1st Army advances south of the Haertgen forest toward Bonn as the 7th Army nears Siegfried Line forts, and the 3rd Army holds against Saar bridgehead counterattacks.

Missing Canadian flyer F L H A Shewlett presumed dead overseas

Florida native F L Shewlett enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 trained as a pilot and earned his commission in 1942 at Uplands Ontario. He married Shirley Blackwell in 1942 and has one son Brian. After instructional duty in Canada he went overseas in 1943 joining bomber command. a sister Margaret and brother John are mentioned.

Mrs James L Bowman Dies in Hospital Sunday

Frances Annie Cadman Bowman born at High Bluff near Portage la Prairie died in Dauphin after long illness. She married James L Bowman on December 28, 1910 and lived in Dauphin. survived by husband James L Bowman a son John F Bowman and daughters Helen and Ruth all of Dauphin. two sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral held at Dauphin United Church with burial at Riverside cemetery.

The Dauphin Blood Donor Clinic celebrated its first year on December 7, with 1 381 donations recorded. Despite progress a donor shortage persists as 18 donors failed to show up last week without explanation. The aim remains 50 donors weekly and a final clinic before Christmas is planned at the G W V A hall next Tuesday morning.

Two Resignations Accepted by Dauphin School Board

At the regular Friday meeting the Dauphin School Board accepted two resignations. A. E. Reid will leave as Collegiate Institute principal at end of June after seven years in the post. W. P. Wright will resign as secretary treasurer by January 31 due to health, having served on the board since August 1934.

Teachers Propose Salary Schedules for Public Schools

Local teachers have requested new salary schedules to start next September for public schools and the collegiate system.
