McDonald was reelected secretary treasurer of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities at its annual convention last week defeating A M McFadyen of Norwood. Mayor Robson won election to the executive representing the Dauphin district. Delegates debated billboard taxation curb mini golf and powers for local authorities to curb abuses in old age pensions with several highway and road resolutions discussed. The Dauphin Curling Club held its semiannual meeting naming officers and setting season fees and rinks selection rules.

Man fined for possessing a still in December court
Steve Solomon of Toutes Aides appeared before Magistrate Hawkins on Saturday December 6 charged with possessing a still. He was found guilty and fined 200 dollars and costs plus one month in gaol or six extra months if the fine is not paid.

City hockey juniors push for open rink facilities
Dauphin hockey association leaders seek funding from town council and school board to build two open rinks in north and south areas. They cite 225 junior players aged 13 and under needing winter ice, with older youths to use municipal rink hours as water reserves risk a shortage. Clearing of Dauphin Clear Lake direct road begins
A crew of twelve men with oulpment and supplies left Dauphin to clear a direct road to Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. The route will run nearly north south reducing the distance from 55 miles to 35. Camps at Clear Lake and ten miles north are established, with a third camp planned as work progresses. The effort, under unemployment relief, is led by Jas Smart. About fifty workers will be employed as more arrive.

Mayor Robson Returns From Winnipeg Convention Trips
Mayor Robson arrived home from Winnipeg where he attended the Union of Manitoba Municipalities convention and the Manitoba Associated Boards of Trade annual meeting. He stayed over the weekend to interview Manitoba Power Commission and Provincial Utilities Board officials about enlarging the Dauphin power plant. He also met with J E Lowry, the Manitoba Telephone System commissioner, about a combined telephone and electric light distribution line planned for this year. He consulted Major M N Hall on operating the present power plant. The mayor reports very satisfactory interviews in all cases.
