School Board Appoints Three New Trustees and Sets Winter Terms

Miss Evelyn Strang reports three vacancies filled by Ellen Bird from Dauphin Marion Del mage from Brandon staff and Constance Tricker of Bowsman. Trustees present include Thos Walker and eight others with H Izon and Wm Cruise named for rural seats. J O Young granted three months leave for health. Cadet leaders may add an hour to weekly timetable. Christmas recess begins Dec 23 with Jan 4 resume.

Mayo pleads guilty to wartime rent increase charge

E. J. Mayo pleaded guilty in local police court to unlawfully increasing rent under wartime lease regulations. He was fined $25 and costs of $4.75.

Winter Sports Begin As Skating Opens Tonight

The curling rink opened for regular club play on Monday and the skating arena will officially open tonight at 7 30 p m. The first band performs at 8 p m with season tickets sold at the arena office from 2 to 5 p m Thursday. Alex Katz, rink committee chairman, says music will be provided via the public address system as in prior years.

Winnipeg Dauphin Day Train Adds New Section

The Winnipeg Dauphin day train will run in two sections to boost capacity. The regular train departs Winnipeg at 11 20 a.m. Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays via Neepawa arriving Dauphin 6 35 p.m. The second section leaves Winnipeg 12 45 p.m. same days via Gladstone arriving 6 45 p.m. The return service via Neepawa leaves Dauphin 6 15 a.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays. the second section departs 8 35 a.m. via Gladstone.

Prices Reductions Now Effective For Tea Coffee Oranges

The War Time Prices and Trade Board ordered price reductions on tea coffee and oranges to offset higher living costs. Tea drops 10 cents per pound and coffee four cents below ceilings with effect Monday. oranges vary by size but average savings of seven to ten cents per dozen for medium fruit. Milk prices should fall within two weeks with a two cent per quart cut. Subsidies and duties removals total about 40 million dollars annually, benefiting consumers while producers and dealers face no change.

Curling Season Opens With New Dues Plan

Matt Syrnyk of Keld pleaded guilty before Magistrate Thomas Little to a violation of rental regulations. He was fined 25 dollars and ordered to pay costs totaling 7.60 dollars.
