AIDS Boys Land a Night Well Spent in Dauphin

The Dauphin boys band presented a benefit program featuring J. C. McMurray’s 71 piece ensemble performing three numbers with an encore. Local performers included Ken Murray Eva Ferguson M. Sytnick and B. Balchen among others as Mayor Bullmore opened the concert. Proceeds fund training for a junior group and bolster band membership.

Counc D E McLean Ends 49 Years With Rail Service

Councillor D E McLean closes a 49 year railroading career with the Canadian Northern Railway begining as an engine laborer in 1908. He rose to divisional master mechanic and will start his eighth consecutive council term next month. He and his wife Sarah McIntyre have two sons and a daughter.

Plans for the annual Ice Carnival sponsored by Dauphin Travellers are moving ahead with George Smith as general chairman C Smith as secretary and Stan May as treasurer A Winnipeg club is expected to finalize arrangements this week inviting a troupe of figure skaters The carnival date will follow the finalization of these talks Committees are led by John Haydn and Bill McGowan for the Queen committee Art Tyler Stan Smith Lance Muir head for publicity and multiple members named for decorating entertainment accommodation and prize duties.

The area board Saturday evening confirmed approval of a revised salary schedule after meetings from Nov. 17 to Nov. 29 with the teachers' negotiating committee. The plan shifts to a single basic salary for all teachers and includes raises for experience and advanced training while the teachers accepted reductions in increases. Official cost estimates predict about a $20 000 rise area wide, with roughly half to 42 town teachers and the rest to 51 rural teachers in Groups A and B. average salaries rise accordingly in each group once the new schedule takes effect next month.
