Ukrainian Baptist church dedication in Manitoba marks civic milestone

A large Ukrainian and English speaking gathering attended the Sunday morning dedication of the new Ukrainian Baptist Church in Dauphin Manitoba. Rev Peter Kindrat led the project with help from Toronto and Hamilton Sunday Schools and Dauphin First Baptist Church volunteers. The day featured a dedicatory sermon, Ukrainian language remarks, music by the Hyas and Ukrainian orchestras, a Sunday School session, and a community fowl supper followed by a public meeting with speakers from local churches and visiting ministers.

Curling Club Opens Season With Surprising Victories

The Dacphin Curling Clube season kickoff features the President's team winning 7 points. Trimble defeats Geo Hume 14 to 6 while McPherson tops Heaslip 14 to 7. Eastman beats Barker 14 to 6 and Oliphant over Wallwin 14 to 4. Heaslip and Esplen combine for 16 to 11 in a key match.

Lecture on Pollock play The Fool at Dauphin Theatre

A Sunday program at the Dauphin Theatre presents a talk on Channing Pollock's The Fool with 52 illustrated slides. The event is set for Sunday December 20 at 8 20 pm after church. Local artists will perform special numbers and proceeds go to the Christmas Cheer fund.

Hockey benefit drives funds. Winnipeg and Dauphin games eyed

The hockey benefit raised forty five dollars. Winnipeg team and Grandview may visit for games after praise of a recent match here. Normal A defeated Grade X 5 1 in a December game with Belton scoring five and Sadler and Crowe adding others. Normal A beat Grade IX 4 1 next, Belton again starred with five goals in two games. Grade IX and XI results noted. standings finish with Normal A versus Grade XI playoff for the Elks Trophy set for next Tuesday, weather permitting.

Meeting closes with Ukrainian and British anthems sung

The session ended after the singing of the Ukrainian National Anthem and the British National Anthem marking a formal closure of proceedings.

Dauphin Poultry Association Elects Officers for New Year

The Dauphin Poultry Association held its annual meeting on November Tth electing J F Sheridan as President Fred Douglas and Wm Morley as Vice Presidents and Wm Murray as Secretary Treasurer. Directors include E H Walker A E Iredale G R Watson Charlies Fry Frank Flanaghan R P McLean Jack Crowe Ed Shuttleworth Bert Caldwell and Walter Williams. The Hon President is Dr J R Gunne with Patrons W J Ward Archie Esplen Mayor W Skinner and Harry McCorvie Reeve. A winter show was authorized with Wm Murray E H Walker and Wm F Morley named as Manitoba Poultry Breeders Association representatives. Outside breeders are soliciting dates for the Dauphin winter show amid high praise from attendees.`

Police sweep targets liquor at Dauphin hotels

On December 3 Provincial Police in Winnipeg aided by the local detachment searched two hotels and other businesses in Dauphin for liquor violative of the Manitoba Temperance Act. Some arrests were made and liquor seized though charges await court action.

Final La Verendrye LO.D.E. meeting praises charity

The La Verendrye Chapter LO.D.E. held its final year meeting with Mrs. J. Connor as chair. Poppy Day reports totaled 210.30 with some returns pending. Funds were approved for I.O.D.E. India work, Christmas Cheer, the Hospital, and Children’s Home. Rev. F. Middleton gave the address Lest we forget. Tea was served by Mrs. Bumstead and Mrs. Mindess.

Mr Roy Watt Addresses St James Brotherhood and Sisterhood

Mr Roy Watt spoke on making Rayon before about fifty to sixty members at St James Brotherhood and Sisterhood in Dauphin. He traced forests’ role in progress and showed Rayon as a major textile development with samples from spruce block to finished thread.
