Mother Goose Pageant Charms Town Hall Audience

A Christmas themed Mother Goose presentation by the James Presbyterian Ladies Aid delighted a Friday night crowd in the town hall. Miss Muriel Steen starred as Mother Goose with Mr Keys as Santa Claus and Hamilton McAhee as the Man in the Moon, while Bethel Wallace led the Spirit of the Storm and a troupe of snowflakes. The McMurray orchestra provided the musical support and a large cast filled the familiar roles from Old Mother Hubbard to Little Bo Peep, showcasing local talent and festive spirit.

Dauphin Musical Society Sevent h Rehearsal Progress Ahead

The seventh Dauphin Musical Society rehearsal for the forthcoming concert drew a large attendance. A small orchestra assist pianist Mrs Roy Hanton with accompaniment solos and choruses. Despite lights going out the ensemble continued. Organizers report strong demand for seats and confidence in local support for future concerts. The next concert is scheduled for Wednesday December 15.

Christmas Dance Planned by Local Ladies at School

The district ladies met at the school house to organize a Christmas tree for district children. A dance is set for Friday December 10 at the school, with admission to Ladies' Caskets and proceeds benefiting the Christmas fund. In the town hall on Thursday afternoon the bazaar by the Methodist Ladies Aid offered gifts stalls and an afternoon tea. A dinner was served from 6 to 8 pm and the event netted 21 dollars for the group.

Passing of an Old-Timer Thomas Wickes of Spruce Creek

Thomas Henry Wickes of Spruce Creek died Sunday November 25 at age 93 years 7 months. He leaves a widow three sons and five daughters including Walter J and Fred E of Spruce Creek Harry of Dauphin Mrs R S Wainwright of Manson BC Mrs Menlove of Winnipeg Mrs Wiggins of Regina and Mrs W Hall and Mrs Williams. Born in Coventry England 1827 he came to Manitoba in 1890 walking from Strathclair with a heavy valise. He settled on land later found to be Hudson Bay Co. land before homesteading remained there until his death. Celebrated golden wedding in February 1913.
