Citizens Welfare Reports Highlight Aid Distributions and Finances

The Citizens Welfare Reports detail aid given over the past year including 2 134 articles of new and second clothing 49 shoe repairs 169 prescriptions and assorted medicines and 100 Christmas hampers plus stoves and kitchen utensils. Retiring officers were reelected and a Christmas Cheer committee was named to distribute hampers. Community groups are urged to inform the secretary of overlooked needy families. Financials show small balances in bank accounts and donations from Vermillion Lodge LaVerendrye Chapter and others.

Wood Thief Gets Seven Days In Town Court

Dmytro Senchuk of Lovering Park pleaded guilty to stealing two cords of spruce wood from the town woodyard on 2nd Avenue. He was sent to jail for seven days by Magistrate Thos. Little after a police court appearance. A subsequent chase led to his capture, with evidence of a prior theft and barter of wood.

Manitoba Co operative Dairy Holds Annual Meeting

The Manitoba Co operative Dairy held its annual meeting in Town Hall with delegates from Kelwood to Bowsman. G W Tovell reported a successful year. William Voss spoke for local plants. Two resolutions urged Manitoba co operatives consolidation and 5 cent butter duty reciprocity with the United States. Officers elected: John Hill president, Ben Boughen vice president, directors E J Pool Kelwood, Paul Johnston Borketon, Hubert Izon Dauphin, Jas Elliott Grandview, Adam Sangster Makaroff, Albert Pope Bowsman.

Pee Wee Hockey Teams Get Smart New Uniforms

Dauphin's Pee-Wee Hockey league opens next week at the open air rink on 1st Avenue. The Secrase team wears Toronto Maple Leafs blue and white, Cruise team wears Montreal Maroons maroon and white, Bryce team wears Montreal Canadiens red white and blue. Teachers help select teams. lineups to be announced.

Municipal Rink Opens Under Parks Board Management

The municipal rink opened Wednesday night under the Dauphin Parks Board supervision with W. H. McDermid as manager and Gerald Bird in charge of music. The public is urged to support the rink to ensure improved service, with full skating schedule details on page 9.

Patron Saint Day Program by Local Scots Featured Singers

The gathering included songs from Mrs. Jas. Oliphant and Mrs. Dahlgren, Iris Johnston on violin, Mrs. E. McNab and Miss Isla Gilmour on piano accordion, and vocal pieces by Wilfrid Caldwell Ronald Paul and Douglas Bruce. Mr. Thomas Little gave the Scotland topic address with Sir Walter Scott lines cited. Thos. Walker performed the haggis piece, followed by dancing to the McMurray orchestra after lunch.

Brigadier James Merritt Visits Dauphin for Army Events

Brigadier James Merritt provincial secretary of the Salvation Army from the Great Lakes to the Rockies arrives in Dauphin this weekend. He will conduct a special soldiers session Saturday night and services all day Sunday. He speaks at a Rotary luncheon Monday and presents a historical film at United Church Monday night on Army founder William Booth.

Buffalo herd expansion leads to cull in Riding Mountain Park

The buffalo herd in Riding Mountain National Park has grown from less than 20 to 83 since its arrival from Wainwright Nation al Park five years ago. Twenty-one animals will be slaughtered this week. 62 will remain. Scrase and Son of Dauphin slaughter the surplus, with hides sold to a tanning firm. A government inspector examines each carcass, and only approved meat is sold locally. The balance is condemned. The original herd bull from Wainwright is among those destroyed. New grazing grounds west of Lake Audy have been opened.

Ukrainians Commemorate Independence Day Concert

A Sunday night program at the Ukrainian People's Home marked Independence Day dating from November 1, 1918. Ukrainian Youth organized the music while A. T. Warnock gave the address on Ukrainian independence. Two young girls laid a wreath at a symbolic Unknown Soldier tomb.

Yatskowski Committed For Trial On Senyk Murder Charge

After a Dauphin police court preliminary hearing, 22 year old Mike Yatskowski of Pine River was committed for trial at the spring assizes for the murder of Peter Senyk. Crown counsel C S A Rogers and Alex Katz led the defense as RCMP witnesses testified about searches, shirt stains, keys, and a missing body found in a ravine.
