Rotary Carol Festival invites choirs and individuals to join a community sing celebrating Christmas. Entries are handled by C. N. Dahigres at 7038 Main Street North or by telephone.
Fred Malowski was elected president of No. 29 branch of the Royal Canadian Legion at the annual meeting on Tuesday November 23. He served overseas in World War II and has been a Legion member since 1946. Freddie is married to Anne Cherneski and they have three sons.
Garnet Maynard was re elected president of the Daver s Agricultural Society at the organizational meeting held Thursday evening November 23 in the DMCC board room. The executive includes Robert C. The Dauphin Agricultural Society met in the Colonial room of the Boulevard hotel on Tuesday November 16 stressing education for exhibitors and board members. Bob Forbes chaired the meeting which honored long-time director John A. McKillop amid plans for a practical educational program and new fair improvements.
The Dauphin Area Emergency Measures Organization ran a four hour exercise titled Reception in the town hall with over 50 participants. The plan assumed worsening international tension a Winnipeg and Churchill bombing scenario and tested municipal response, evacuation needs, and resource strain with four syndicates led by group leaders.
Ivan Thue was elected president at the first Dauphin Toastmasters Club meeting held at the Boulevard Hotel on Friday November 12. The executive includes Peter McDougall educational vice president Walter Bosiak administrative vice president Keith Sanderson secretary Lawrence Milner treasurer George Dowler sergeant at arms Bill Sanderson and Art Becker directors. The club now has 22 members and plans to reserve its charter soon inviting interested people to contact any executive member. The club aims to help members improve communication skills and provides instructions and educational materials.
Dauphin district butter makers won six prizes at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto drawing 122 butter samples. Top Manitoba award went to People’s Co op Creamery of Minnedosa for highest provincial score. Other prizes include Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co op, Winnipegosis Creamery, Ste Rose Creamery and Supply, and Dauphin entries in various weight classes.
Town council debates snow clearing rules after two weeks of heavy snowfall. Public works chair and town engineer will report on policy at the next public works committee meeting, with emphasis on sidewalk clearance and timely ploughing for pedestrians.
Dauphin and district residents are urged to attend a blood donors clinic this Thursday from 2 to 5 PM and 6 30 to 9 30 PM. Donor participation is requested to help save lives with available blood supplies.
Jim Beaton longtime member of Dauphin Volunteer Fire Department was honored by fellow firefighters Saturday evening November 27 in the striped room of Kings Hotel. A smorgasbord was served and he received a suitably record watch as a token of appreciation.
A Dauphin industrial group outlines a Designated Areas Program with Incentives to Industries and arranges a visit by Len McGee of the federal Industry Department. He'll interview locals interested in starting or expanding business in Dauphin and district on December 14 and 15. People may call 638-5252 to schedule interviews with C N Bentham, secretary of DLAL.
The Dauphin town council plans a December 13 meeting arranged by Hon. Stewart McLean to consider establishing a technical college and school in Dauphin. Delegates include D. E. Persson and I. Thue of the chamber of commerce. The meeting was approved at last week’s session along with several budget and civic decisions.
Professor Leonard Isaacs of the University of Manitoba will adjudicate the Dauphin Music Festival set for April 27 to 30. The event will take place in the Whitmore and Collegiate auditoriums and features a published syllabus.
At a Nov 9 Dauphin meeting 68.4 percent of members voted in favor of amalgamation with Ethelbert Consumers Co operative Limited. Ethelbert area members approved last Aug 9, with local trade about 40000 dollars yearly and 6.6 percent average savings since inception. Target date for amalgamation is Feb 1 1966 with plans to upgrade bulk plant storage and add a farm supply centre. Walter Komarnicky oversees Ethelbert operations.
