Judge Simpson Honored at Bar Association Banquet

Friday evening the Bar of Dauphin hosted a complimentary banquet in the King's Hotel to celebrate Judge Simpson's recent appointment to the bench. J. L. Bowman KC chaired the toast program with remarks for and against the honoree and a sequence of toasts from H. N. Marneilis K. Guild and others. The event concluded after the singing of Canada.

Police to Send Notices to Delinquent Dog Licensees

Notices are being sent this week by the police department to licensees who failed to renew dog licenses since June 1.

Car Strikes Train at Main Street Crossing

On Monday evening Brews Durston crossed Main Street near No 15 from the east and did not see the train until close. He tried to stop after applying brakes that failed to work, and his car struck the locomotive tearing a wheel. The train halted within feet as the crew checked for injuries.

Ford Collision At Vermillion And 4th Street Southwest

Clifford Smith’s Ford was rammed by a car driven by F Duchesneau at Vermillion and 4th SW. Smith’s vehicle sustained heavy damage and several occupants received minor bruises. A truck stolen from Hope store frontage was recovered 9.5 miles south the next day. Pauphin calls for revised traffic regulations following the crash.

Canadian National brakeman Injured On Duty

On Monday afternoon Chas. McFi. Kinney a yard brakeman for the Canadian National was injured while on duty. He leaned from a box car and fouled another car’s steps, fell to the ground, and was rushed to a hospital. Dr. Rogers treated him for several rib fractures and two head cuts. He is as well as can be expected.

Wedding of Bernice May Unites May Family in Manitoban Ceremony

The wedding of Bernice Irene May to Frank Baird took place Wednesday August 22 at the May home on Buchannon Avenue with Rev H M Lyon officiating. Attendants included bride’s brother-in-law A A Hoy and Miss Janetrd as bridesmaid. The couple, after a reception for about sixty guests, departed for Winnipeg for a brief honeymoon. Also reported is Northern Manitoba tennis tournament results with multiple winners across mixed doubles, ladies singles and doubles, and men’s events led by Miss Cameron, Mrs. Delmage, Geo. McLean, and R. Stewart.

Brickey Handicap First Round Drawed For Aug 30 To Sept 3

The Brickey Handicap first round runs Thursday to Sunday with matches set for August 30 through September 3. Notable draws include Solomon vs Edgar, Nagle vs Easterbrook, Bates versus Darlington, and Stelck vs Padley. Top players must be ready by 9 30 a m on September 2 for Hobberlin semi finals, with after hours Brierley play allowed for two 9 hole rounds on separate nights.

Dr Rogers Assists Man Run Over by Binder at Ochre River

On Tuesday Doctor Rogers was called to Ochre River to treat Jack McDonald after a binder ran over him. He sustained two cracked ribs and several bruises from the wheel and machinery. The accident was caused by the horses starting unexpectedly. the cutting gear was not in use at the time.

Game Protective Association to be Formed in Dauphin

A meeting plans the creation of a Dauphin group to protect game and enforce laws. It will be held September 4 at 8 pm in the Elks lodge. J H Evans deputy minister of agriculture will outline successful models. James Arnold, early Dauphin resident, died accidentally in Winnipeg on the 22nd. he once ran the Convalescent Home on Jessie Avenue and homesteaded here about 28 years ago.

Junior Football Championship Final Set in Dauphin

The Manitoba junior football final between Kildonan and the Rangers will be played Monday at 4 30 p m as the Elks Carnival feature. Kildonan enters undefeated and seeks the Birk’s Shield while the Rangers aim to overturn last year’s one goal edge. The cup and medals will be shown at Heaslip’s Drug Store. Dauphin’s grain trade noted with No 1 Northern wheat and a 30 bushels per acre yield. Scrase and Watson plan cattle shipments on September 4.
