A joint Manitoba Saskatchewan picnic will be held Monday near Roblin to celebrate highway openings Manitoba No. 5 and Saskatchewan No. 10. He speaks to the Rotary Club at noon on Dickens and gives readings, then lectures on Some Humble Books in the collegiate auditorium with public access. An afternoon meeting for teachers is at three o'clock. Irma F Struthers resumes her class in piano theory on September 2.

Craven E Blackburn Injured in Runaway Incident
Craven E Blackburn an elderly farmer in the rural municipality was injured in two runaways by his team on Monday. In the second crash his shoulder was broken a lung punctured and he suffered a general shock. He was taken home in serious condition.

Grandview Defeats By Law Granting Franchise
In a 57 to 57 tie, Grandview ratepayers rejected the two thirds needed for a 20 year franchise to National Utilities Corporation Ltd to install an electric light plant and motor driven pump replacing the water works. The failure may push Grandview to seek power from the Provincial Hydro Commission which is building a transmission line from Dauphin toward Gilbert Plains. National Utilities Ltd has secured franchises in Deloraine Hamiota and Swan River this summer.

Goodwill Visit of Winnipeg Tourists to Dauphin
A motorcade of 25 cars with 106 boosters arrived in Dauphin from Winnipeg on a goodwill trip sponsored by the Hotel and Tourist section of the Tourist Convention Bureau led by Col. G. F. C. Poussette executive secretary. The Winnipeg Electric Railway band performed outside the Town Hall as Mayor Robson welcomed the visitors. Speakers praised cross‑provincial ties and Manitoba progress, with R. Jas. Speers stressing Winnipeg’s intent to foster better relations with northern communities.

Stanley Darlington, local Manitoba Telephone System chief and Elks leader, died by suicide August 20 following his wife’s death on May 29. He was 1887 born, fallen in Dauphin area. funeral held August 24 at Anglican Church, River Sit cemetery burial. He leaves four sisters and five brothers.

Initial Pool Payment on Wheat 60 Cents Per Bushel

Young Harvester Dies Suddenl y Near Dauphin
A young harvester identified as Oliver Beaney of Essex England died suddenly near Dauphin after two hours work. He collapsed at supper and remained unconscious until he died at 2 pm Friday in Dauphin hospital. The funeral was held at the Anglican church with Canon Cousins officiating.

Touring horticultural society to visit Manitoba and provinces
The Great Plains section of the society for horticultural science plans a Manitoba tour with a motorcade led by Prof. Brodrick of the M.A.C. H.L. Lantz of State College Iowa is president. The party leaves Winnipeg Sunday, stops at Minnedosa Clear Lake Take Audy and Valles River before Dauphin for the night.
