Ration books issued with detailed color coupon system

Wartime Prices and Trade board advises recipients to check new ration books starting Monday. Five coupon series in red and other colors cover sugar tea coffee with extra sheets for potential future needs. Report shortages by book serial number if far from a ration office.

Rotary Carnivals Support War Effort and Charity

Four-year series of Rotary carnivals raised 5010 dollars for war work and charity. Donations honored groups such as the Sal vation Army Canadian Legion Veterans' bugle band and Dauphin Hockey association with sums from 15 to 100 dollars. Postwar goal set aside 2000 dollars in Dominion of Canada bonds for future needs. An additional 2613 dollars were spent locally on carnival supplies and prizes.

Ottawa reports deny rumors that Riding Mountain National Park will be used for military training this fall. Government plans to cut maintenance earlier to save money, with no intended training use. Park attendance is down, prompting a Labor Day maintenance cutback on Sept. 7.

The Dauphin Salvage committee will meet in the Town hall council chamber at 7 30 p m to hear the financial report and distribute funds. Attendance is welcome to anyone wishing to attend.

Police Court Fines for Traffic Offences

Infringements of the traffic act under the Town by law led to fines and costs in the local police court last week. Mike paid a fine with costs of five dollars, George three dollars ninety five cents, and Douglas four dollars seventy five cents in costs.

Two Dauphin Boys Reported Missing Following Dieppe Raid

New Ration Book No. 1 Arrives for Sugar Tea and Coffee

New ration books for tea coffee and sugar arrived at the local post office on Tuesday and many have been distributed. Ration Book No. 1 becomes effective September 7 for six months and each book is serial numbered with an address of the nearest board for inquiries.

Women's Work Committee Ships 243 More Articles

The Women's Work Committee of the local Red Cross completed 243 articles in August and sent them to Winnipeg headquarters. Donations came from Melton, Old Dauphin, and Banks Ladies' clubs including quilts, dresses, suits, sweaters, scarves, and a total of $5.

Aircraft Crash Kills Three Officers From No 10

Officers of No 10 killed in a crash. Identifications withheld pending relatives’ notification. PO MacDonnel and family had been stationed at the No 10 school since April. Helen MacDonnel and eight month old son John left for Waterloo Ontario.

Public Schools Open Sept 1 for grades 1 to 8

The public schools grades 1 to 8 will open Tuesday morning September 1. A notice on page nine tells students where to report. Children six by December 1, 1942 are eligible for beginner classes. Proof of age required at enrollment. Do not purchase all texts before consulting teachers due to changes in some books.

Duke of Kent Killed in Wreck of Flying Boat

The Duke of Kent, fourth son of King George V, died when the Sunderland flying boat crashed in northern Scotland on August 25. All aboard perished except one rear gunner. A royal mourning period and full military honors are planned. Air ministry investigates. Queen Mary and Princess Marina are informed.
