A British Columbia native and 1938 RCMP recruit, Irving served at Haney Kelowna Prince Rupert Victoria and Prince George before arriving here. He is married with two sons and a daughter, one son already in the RCMP.
Staff-Sergeant J. W. Spicer is posted as NCO of the Dauphin sub-division and second in command to the commanding officer. Born in LeRoy Sask, he joined the RCM Police in 1940 at Regina, trained there and in Ottawa, with multiple postings including Dauphin, Flin Flon, Swan River, The Pas, and Brandon before returning to Dauphin in 1954 55 months with detachments noted.
A district volunteer fire department passed a surprise test early Tuesday as the town woke to the fire siren. Firefighters responded efficiently beyond expectation, impressing the commissioner and underscoring an effective volunteer service.
Mrs William Neil of Grand view wins the Boughen reg aoe cup for 96 points and the Dave McLean memorial trophy for dahlias, while Leith Skinner of Skinner's Nursery racks up 10 firsts and the Alex Wallace cup for gladiolus. Betty Ann Tordon, aged ten, claims the Dauphin Herald Rose bowl and the Mrs James Maynard trophy in the junior section. The Dauphin Day Horticultural Society hosts the event with farmers, families, and exhibitors.]

The Dauphin Horticultural Society holds its annual Garden Show climax at 9 p.m. with President E. F. Treendle presiding. Guests including J. Weir and Manitoba Horticultural Association secretary praised the society as trophies cups and special awards were presented to top home grounds and show entrants. A display from Sytnick Flower Shop and Boughen Nursery decorated the stage. Scott's Hardware trophy reappears in awards.
Ron Pidskalny of Ethelbert has won a $750 university entrance scholarship funded by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. The award recognizes academic and personal achievements and is renewable annually toward an engineering degree at the University of Manitoba.
Dauphin Ochre Area schools begin on Wednesday Sept 1 with a total staff of 133 teachers. The 1965-66 lineup shows Dauphin Composite High School employing 43, five elementary schools 69, village schools nine, and rural one room schools twelve. New automotive course replaces the former shop course at the high school.
A fatal crash near Ochre River at 1 a.m. Aug 15 killed Eileen Margaret Garton, 17, and injured five others. Vehicles driven by Ca Niemen and Louie Brooks collided two miles east of Ochre River at an uncontrolled intersection. Injured: Carl Niemen 20 Plvin Dunfield 16 Clifford Robertson 16 and William Hutchinson 17. An inquest led by A K Dick is ongoing.
Mr and Mrs R W Hail are honored on their 94th and 89th birthdays in a Aug 5 photograph. The senior Dauphin couple's double celebration marks a milestone for the long married pair.
H E Davies, manager of the Dauphin office of the National Employment Service, appeals to potential drop-outs to resume schooling to improve employability. He warns that opportunities for the uneducated and unskilled are shrinking as many employers now hire graduates and look for advancement prospects.
The Dauphin chamber selected as site for the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce provincial convention in 1967. Dauphin chamber president Don Persson extended the invitation at the Portage la Prairie convention last April. The new provincial executive discussed acceptance at its Winnipeg meeting. Ivan Thue of the Dauphin C of C attended.
The Dauphin Horticultural Society reports 91 entries this year, 69 exhibitors, and many newcomers. Winners span vegetables such as Globe beets and Oxheart carrots to cut flowers including Asters and Achillea, with multiple exhibitors like Mrs. H. Tordon, Mrs. Wm. Neil, and Mrs. Gwen Robinson earning top prizes across categories.
