Increased Entries Colorful Exhibits At Garden Show
The 26th annual Garden Show by the Dauphin Horticultural Society drew 59 exhibitors with 693 entries at the DMCC Exhibition building. Prizes went to Mrs. B. C. Goodhand for Africa themed art, and Mrs. A. McKillop for the driftwood class, as crowds praised blooms, color, and the effort. The event included Boy Scouts and a Mountie, with officials including MP Elmer Forbes and Mayor Harold Mobberley in attendance. Proceeds supported a Dauphin Rotary toy for a hospital ward, spotlighting community support and garden pride.

Parliamentarians to visit Dauphin on Manitoba tour
Forty Canadian federal and provincial parliamentarians visit Dauphin for a four hour stopover during a Manitoba tour. The group includes three senators and 11 MPs with provincial lawmakers, led by Speakers Roland Michener and Mark Drouin. They meet in Winnipeg for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association regional conference and travel from Flin Filion to Dauphin then to Clear Lake and Brandon.

Entertainment Planned Locally For CPA Visitors
A group of 40 parliamentarians visiting Dauphin next Tuesday will receive a four hour hospitality program. They will be met at the municipal airport at 10 30 am by local officials, tour the town, attend a reception at La Verendrye hosted by MP Elmer Forbes and Hon Stewart McLean, followed by dinner before departing by bus at 2 30 pm for Clear Lake and Brandon.

Area Schools Open 1960 61 Staff Fully Trained
The Dauphin-Ochre School Area plans a fall term start with 120 teachers across rural and town schools. About 250 visitors arrived by train Friday August 19 in Dauphin. Mayor Harold Mobberley and officials greeted them with hospitality. The Douglas Middleton IODE served cold drinks and snacks. Tour groups visited Clear Lake Lake Dauphin and Rainbow Beach Park and tours of town followed. Visitors praised Canadian hospitality and local scenery while sharing lighthearted remarks about curling and flowers.

Trophy Awards At Dauphin 26th Annual Garden Show
The Dauphin garden show crowned the Michael Sytnick Memorial trophy winner Miss Lii Esplen for artistic arrangements earning 13 prizes. Jamieson dominated with multiple classes, while Mrs J A Jamieson entered 41 items. Tea after the event hosted by Mrs A Harris featured wildflower bouquets by local children.

Baxter age 22 died Aug 17 in a Sabre jet crash near Baden Soelfingen Germany while serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force 4th Fighter Wing since 1959 Born in Dauphin he joined the RCAF in 1956 and trained at Gimli He is survived by his parents two brothers in Winnipeg and four sisters at home A memorial service was held August 22 at Dauphin’s First United church

Ira D. Ross Retires After 41 Years With CNR
Ira D. Ross ends 41 years with Canadian National Railways on July 3 retiring after a long service. Born in Bayfield New Brunswick he came west to Dauphin after serving in France in World War I. He joined the CNR in 1919 progressed to engineer in 1944 and last ran Hudson Bay Sask to Dauphin. He married Dorothy Scott in 1935 and has four daughters.
