Horticulturists Visit Valley River Nursery in Dauphin

A tour by members of the Danshie Horticultural Society, including Professor and Mrs Alderman and guests from Minnesota North Dakota Ottawa and Manitoba, praised Mr Boughen’s Valley River Nursery. They tested fruit and shrub propagation for prairie provinces and lauded Western Canada’s potential, then tea at Lys residence and tours of local gardens.

Thornton orders wires removed from memorial site

During a Monday visit, Sir Henry W. Thornton of Canadian National Railways urged removal of telegraph wires near the Dauphin memorial monument. Wires now mar the site, and the community thanks him for directing them to be placed underground.

Man Sentenced to Two Years for Stealing Mirrors in Oshawa

John Heyko and his wife lived on a Dauphin area street. He was jailed for two years in Oshawa Ontario for stealing mirrors from a factory where he worked. Heyko fled to Oshawa last fall, sent mirrors to his wife, and they were auctioned. Credit to Chief Everett for solving and bringing Heyko to justice.

Sir Henry Thornton Visits Dauphin District on Train Trip

Sir Henry W Thornton arrived Monday morning at 11 o clock in Dauphin with a warm reception from the Board of Trade and local citizens. He praised the district as a premier agricultural area and urged farmers to pursue mixed farming for long term value. He urged cooperation among officials, employees, and Canadians to turn progress into profit and promised a return visit to further engage with the community.

District man arraigned on mask for spirit manufacture

Mike Malaluk of the district was arraigned before P.M. Hawkins on Monday charged with possession of a mask suitable for the manufacture of spirits. After a preliminary exchange between Crown Prosecutor Rogers and the defendant's solicitor J. N. McFadden, the case was remanded until Friday August 22.

Appointment of John Batty as Post Master at Makinak

Judge Bonnycastle departed for the Pas on Monday to hold County Court. The docket includes two appeals under the Manitoba Temperance Act and one challenge to a town by law ruling, all to be heard.

Elks Carnival in Dauphin a Splendid Success

Dauphin Lodge No. 57 Elks staged a first large summer carnival on August 14 drawing about 1600 people. A civic holiday plus a colorful street parade with 40 floats and many costumes opened the day, followed by athletics, midway games, dances, and prizewinners across floats, races, and baseball tournaments.

Moss Arrest Warrant Issued In Auto Theft Case

A warrant was sworn for H. F. Moss of the Winnipeg postal service on auto mobile theft charges. The car belonged to a Steven baseball team member in the Elks Carnival tournament. The vehicle was taken from Hamilton Hotel, damaged in a ditch spill, Moss arrested at Lake Beach, warrant withdrawn as he paid for damages. He left for Winnipeg with Inspector Whatmaugh.
