Net Profits Tax Plan Repealed in Favor of New Provincial Order

The provincial cabinet repealed the planned net profits tax collection and issued a new order after consultation. Edward Brown notes copies will be distributed to business men subject to the tax within days. The 1920-21 period calendar year rules set a 2 percent tax on net income from within the province with restricted cross border effects.

GROFF MCKENZIE BOUT SET FOR WINNIPEGOSIS

Advance ticket sales indicate a large crowd will greet boxers Billy Groff and Billy McKenzie in a ten round bout at Winnipegosis. Preliminary bouts start 3 45 p m with the main event around 10 p m. Car services run from Chute's garage for 6 to 7 p m. Groff trains intensely, running miles daily and practicing with gloves. Baird's offers ham and bacon at 45 cents per pound while supply lasts.

Neepawa Ladies Win In Return Game

Neepawa hosts the Dauphin Ladies in a fine baseball contest with strong fielding and batting. Neepawa wins 13 to 9 after bolstering their lineup, leaving both teams with one win apiece and a possible neutral ground deciding match, perhaps McCreary.

Hailstorm Hits Glenelia District Causing Farm Damage

Last week Glenelia district was struck by a severe hailstorm that damaged crops. Many farmers in the hail belt were insured with total coverage amounting to 130000 dollars.

Pedestrian Subway Plans for Main Street Approved

Plans by Canadian National Railways for a Main Street pedestrian subway were submitted to the Town Council. The revised plan with a central decline and iron railings was approved, with tenders called for concrete work and work expected to start soon.

Half Block of Roblin Business District Destroyed by Fire

A late Saturday morning blaze in Roblin Manitoba leveled about half a city block on Main Street causing estimated losses of 25 000 to 30 000. Stocks lost included Wapey and Lebedowich general store John Prynczuk pool room W Ballard barber Dr J B Irwin veterinary surgeon W Evans watchmaker Steffer and Rye butchers with Gill and Company store and Merchants Bank building sustaining heavy damage. Firefighters struggled as fumes spread from a gasoline pumping engine before the Newton block halted efforts. The origin is suspected near an electric lighting plant but remains unconfirmed. Insurance covers the losses.

Harvest labor settles with even demand in Manitoba

Dauphin Labour reports harvest work near balance with about equal demand and supply. Wages set by farmers at $4.00 per day, some men paid $4.00 for threshing. About 27,000 men have come West. six weeks may finish most Manitoba work if weather holds. Boxing match in Winnipegosis on Thursday August 25 draws notice.
