Joy blasts North Korea talks as Reds refuse map pause

Excursionists Visit Dauphin On Canadian Chur chill Ride

The 15th annual Churchill excursion train stopped in Dauphin last Friday with 223 riders, 189 from the United States. Visitors toured Riding Mountain National Park, Dauphin Beach, farms, and gardens, and were welcomed by local officials.

Town Council Debates Express Deliveries and School District Rules

Dauphin town council condemned the express delivery report as unsatisfactory and asked the express superintendent to resume deliveries to all town boundaries. Harvest Delays Hit Dauphin District Harvest

Heavy rain in the Dauphin area delays harvesting for three to four days. Nearly two inches fell Monday and Tuesday, postponing 1951 harvests to around August 27 if no more rain arrives. Crop prospects remain strong with good yields projected for wheat barley oats and flax. hail damage noted in Ethelbert and Sifton areas.

Three District Residents Die In Accidents

Three Dauphin area residents died in accidents this week. Peter Ohryn, 54, was found dead Sunday on First Street Southeast from possible suffocation. John Yarema, 59, was killed when a tractor overturned near Sifton. Mrs. Fred Berthelette, 62, was struck by a passenger train at Laurier while crossing to visit her daughter.

Dauphin Collegiate Exam Results Show Strong Overall Pass Rate

The June examination by H. C. Ray reports 2053 papers from grades 9 to 12 with 1770 passes, an 86.2 percent school pass rate. Grade 12 shows 68.6 percent passes, tied to outside students’ weaker prep. 102 multi year entrants pass rate 87 of 102, while one year entrants yield 57 passes of 108.

Dauphin Board Sets Arena Plan and Funding

The D.M.C.C. board agrees to take responsibility for up to 85000 to build an arena seating 3000 to 4000. Dauphin town commits 60000 to the capital cost. Plans and costs to be secured promptly, with Arch-Teen Bow string trusses preferred for the structure.

Annual Garden and Fruit Show Set For Next Week

Dauphin hosts its annual garden show and the north Manitoba fruit show sponsored by the Dauphin Horticultural Society. The event runs next Friday and Saturday August 24 25 at the DMCC industrial hall with competitions in fruits vegetables house plants cut flowers and bouquets displays children's and youths displays honey and canning. Special awards include the Dauphin Herald Rose Bowl and the Bowman McFadden Carmichael silver cups.

Heating Unit Installation Considered For Town Hall

Town council considered obtaining price quotations to install a heating unit at the Dauphin town hall. Estimated cost up to 10 000 dollars. The steam plant is closing by year end and heating four facilities, including the arena, becomes an issue.

Dauphin Little Leaguers Win Manitoba Championship

Dauphin All-Stars captured the Manitoba Little League tournament title and the Dauphin Junior Chamber of Commerce trophy for 1951 after a 2-1 final win over Winnipeg House Blue Sox at the D.M.C.C. The 12-team event drew near 1,000 fans, with Dauphin defeating Minnedosa 14-2 and Winnipegosis 9-3 en route to the final.

In week two of the Dauphin Horticultural Society gladiolus contest J H Delong moved into the overall lead with an eight point total after placing third on Saturday. Mrs H Wooster won week two with five points to tie for second overall.
