Adjourned August meeting discusses a thirty mill town levy for 1935, with a .05% rate on 500 dollar debentures planned for a new dam and filtration plant. Gilbert Plains wins Zone 4 B division competition at Dauphin Tuesday night. The team took three of five events with Eileen McConnell and Nora McGirr leading in singles and doubles. Special Churchill Excursion Train Passes Dauphin Friday

The third annual all inclusive Winnipeg to Churchill excursion departs August 16 arriving Dauphin at 4 pm for a two hour stop. The route includes The Pas Flin Flon Churchill Fort Prince of Wales and Manitoba seaport grain elevator sites with a return to Winnipeg by August 22.

Wheat Carryover Figures Announced by Statistics Bureau

The Dominion bureau of statistics reports Canada end of crop year July 31 wheat carryover at 203,231,288 bushels, with 11,704,536 bushels in elevators and afloat in the United States. Combined Canada and U S wheat totals reach 214,935,824 bushels. Oats carryover is 26,444,751 bushels with 20,071,000 in farmers hands. last year oats total was 31,060,497.

Rust and hail devastate Dauphin district wheat crop

Crop losses in Dauphin district run about 75 percent of sown acreage due to rust floods and hail per district agricultural representative John Conner. Marquis wheat is hit hard, averaging seven to eight bushels per acre with many grades No 3 or No 4. Early oats and barley look fair, later varieties depend on weather.

Hope to Have Scholarship Fund Available This Fall

The Dauphin Scholarship Fund committee, set up by the local council of women, plans to offer a fund this fall for a deserving Grade XI student to continue to Grade XII. The committee invites enthusiastic support and contributions when the fund opens.

Wasagaming golfer McLachlin takes Wasagaming championship

Mrs. C. W. McLachlin of Wasagaming club defeated Mrs. L. P. Mason of St. Charles Country Club Winnipeg four and three to win the Buffalo emblematic Wasagaming ladies golf championship. Winners in the other flights were Mrs. A. R. Hurst Brandon Miss W. Hales Brandon and Mrs. F. Parkes Selkirk. Miss Helen Bowman Dauphin was eliminated in the semi finals of the championship flight.

Town Police Court Finds Stewart on Liquor and Juvenile Charges

On Tuesday August 13 Magistrate Litue fined Chas F Stewart 200 dollars for liquor control act violation 25 dollars for contributing to juvenile delinquency and imposed a two year suspended sentence for delinquency of a child A woman Lishach was jailed one month at Portage on two shoplifting charges at Eaton’s and Stelck’s Prosecution was led by Jas Anderson Chief of Police Dauphin with Child Welfare assisting in juvenile cases.

Crop Testing Plan Shows Up Bad Seed

A Winnipeg area crop testing plan under Dominion and provincial agriculture supervision with Western universities and elevator firms found only 19 of 160 samples graded A and 53 graded B. Thirty-five percent required replacement, based on results from the William Cruise plot representing seed from over 300 farmers across the district.

Eli Bay Dies During Winnipeg Visit

Prominent Dauphin merchant Eli Bay died suddenly in Winnipeg on August 7 after arriving by car to consult a specialist. Born in Russia 58 years ago, he helped establish Dauphin as a regional shopping center and remained its guiding business figure until his death. He is survived by his widow six children a sister and three brothers with funeral from Winnipeg and burial at Shaarey Zedek cemetery.

Ukrainians to Stage Picnic At Broken Pipe Lake

The eighth annual Ukrainian People's Home picnic at Broken Pipe Lake features a political rally with three candidates for the Dauphin federal seat James Bowman Ward McKellar addressing the crowd. Other speakers include War nock Hryhorchuk and chair Potoski. Prizes for sports and games accompany the festivities ending with a dance.

King Urges Empire Trade Policy Of Lower Tariffs

Liberal leader W. L. Mackenzie King urged adoption of Rt. Hon Stanley Baldwin’s Empire trade plan to lower tariffs within the Empire rather than against foreign nations. He spoke Tuesday in Woodstock Ontario, arguing early adoption would have improved the mood in 1982.
