Collegiate Classes T School Board Reinstates Staff Member

The school board approved the reinstatement of J. J. Lywecki to the collegiate staff effective Sept. 1 after a year on leave. The meeting focused on routine affairs including renewing contracts for school drivers, with authority granted to the finance committee to arrange the renewals.

Extra Tea and Coffee Ration Reporting Rules

The Wartime Prices and Trade board requires any household with more than two weeks of tea or coffee on hand as of August 3 to report total quantities to the nearest ration office. Coupons covering the difference must be surrendered with the report, and if surplus coupon value exceeds entitlement, an undertaking to surrender additional coupons is needed. It is unlawful to deface or alter any ration card or coupon.

Ukrainian Catholics Hold Pioneers Day in Keld

Pioneers Day was held in Keld on Sunday August 9 with attendees from Dauphin Plains Grand View and Umatilla. Paul Olearnik organizer of the celebration thanked guest speakers in English and Ukrainian. The Dauphin choir was directed by Miss Helen Waroway.

Residents Urged to Provide Definite Mail Addresses

Local Dauphin residents are asked to supply precise return addresses for letters due to high mail volume. Mail is sorted into boxes, delivery, and rural routes, and without a box or route number the item may go to general delivery or remain unclaimed. Rural route patrons should include their route number.

Dauphin Elks Lodge Marks 20th Anniversary Picnic

Dauphin lodge No. 57 of the B P O Elks celebrated twenty years of service since its August 11 1922 founding with a Sunday picnic. Members have raised and donated about $52 000 to charity and war work during the period.

War Certificate Buyers Like New Service Here

Farmers in the district started cutting wheat and coarse grains as favorable weather could bring general harvest in about two weeks. Yields by the elevator agents include wheat 30 bushels, oats 50, barley 40, rye 25, flax nine with leaf rust causing 10 percent wheat and 15 to 20 percent flax depreciation. Labor shortages loom as harvest begins and relief is uncertain. People favor wartime post office and bank sales of war savings certificates now offered by the post office and major banks to speed delivery and provide registered certificates. The National War Finance committee urges continued purchase of these securities to fund the war front and later citizen needs.

Rotary Club hears on paper making evolution and history

Frt.Lieut. Phillip Howes spoke at the Dauphin Rotary luncheon on paper making, tracing its history from papyrus to modern pulp and rag processes. Introduced by Group Captain A. H. Wilson, Howes recounted his earlier paper mill work and explained how paper moves from raw material to the familiar product.

Six Die in Animal Tragedy At Cottage Scene

Six dogs died reportedly from unknown causes at a seaside cottage where Mrs. H Lomas visited with a wire haired terrier. Owners named include J L Allard Chesapeak retriever Cpl C E Brown collie Newfoundland pup FO McArthur Labrador pup W K Marsh Llewellyn setter and Geo Moore collie Newfoundland pup. R C M police investigate alongside two calves of Ove Damsgaard from Dauphin Beach also dying unexpectedly on August 4.

Veterans enlist in new 37th Veterans' Guard company

The 103rd Reserve of the Veterans' Guard of Canada volunteered for active service in the 37th company, to be mobilized at Fort Osborne Winnipeg. Medical examinations were held at the Armoury for Dauphin Roblin Swan River and The Pas veterans, with many accepted as fit though some rejected. Major Saunderson commands the 37th with officers from Dauphin and The Pas joining, and the mobile unit led by Major A J Swan visited Winnipeg to oversee recruiting.

Grasshopper Infestation Eases Across Dauphin District

Dominion entomologist Dr. R. D. Bird surveyed areas badly infested earlier in the summer near Fork River and Winnipegosis and found no traces of adult hoppers. The Brandon researcher reported the 현 results after a weeklong survey across the Dauphin district.
