Golf match at Country Club lifts local team from deficit

Local sporting arena reports a comeback from a two to ten point hole by Essing at the Dauphin Country Club in district play. Dr Harrington overcame a sixteen stroke deficit to finish with 185, Feldman led Swan River with 100, Trimble earned 187, and Heaslip 199 as Swan River players shared top finishes amid praise for Dauphin’s fairways.

Golf handicaps set for ladder competition season

Handicaps are calculated as three quarters the difference between par 74. A ladder competition is proposed to run the rest of the season to boost interest and aid next year’s handicaps. First round draws and byes listed with players and handicaps.

Candy Competition Winners Named in July and August

In the Candy Competition played July 29, Mrs. Geo. Walker took the top prize. On August 3, Mrs. Dr. Rogers won the box of chocolates in the same contest.

Ladies Hidden Hole winner crowned and near finish

The winner of the Ladies Hidden Hole Competition was Mrs. Howard Edgar Chierley, with the Handicap Competition nearing a finish and a winner to be announced next week. The Hobberlian Open Championship draw lists numerous pairings, with First Flight cards due by August 23.

Dauphin Tennis Champs Crown Palmer Trophy Holder

Mrs. J. Delmage of Dauphin retains the Palmer cup as ladies singles champion at the Northern Manitoba championships. Delmage with Mrs. Walker win ladies doubles, and Delmage with Mr. Curtiss win mixed doubles. Bowman cup goes to Mr. Chanter in men’s singles. Hill and Jackson reach men’s doubles final. Junior finals include Miss Wallwin versus Miss McConnell, and Crowe versus Stark in boys singles.

Prairie chicken open season slated for one week

Manitoba Department of Agriculture and Immigration posts a one week prairie chicken shooting period this year. The chart shows open seasons for partridge grouse and chicken from October 15 to October 22, with no order to cancel the privilege as in 1925.

Western Oil Company Limited of Winnipeg has acquired the business of Botfield Oil Co, which has operated in Dauphin for six years. The new concern runs from the former Botfield C N right of way site on Front Street NE and offers special gasoline and oil deals.

Tennis tournament at Grace and St James churches ends in lively finals

The final rounds of a tennis tournament were played at Grace and St James United churches last Saturday with about 50 youth from two clubs. Marion Mackie won Girls singles and paired with Merle Armstrong to win Girls doubles. Jessie Wallwyn and Jim Craig won Mixed doubles. Jim Craig won Boys singles. Arthur Smith and Joe Grant took Boys doubles. Prizes included a suitcase, cuff links, toilet items, a scout knife, silk shirt, stockings, a handbag, and china cups.
