Prime Minister announces a special Canadian brigade of 4090 to 5000 men with six months training to join United Nations forces in Korea if needed. Parliament will be recalled soon to accelerate defense plans as international needs dictate. Canada has not deployed front line troops to avoid weakening its own defenses.
Hon. Milton F. Gregg takes over as minister of labor amid a looming general rail strike. He replaces the late Hon. Humphrey Muenet, with Hugues Lapointe named veterans affairs successor and Garson adding Lapointe’s duties to his portfolio. Prime Minister St Laurent notes no immediate other changes.
Britain plans a £3.4 billion three year defense expansion to double equipment output. The program hinges on U S aid to ease economic shock, with officials signaling possible support under Atlantic Pact policy. Annual spending would rise about £220 million, 43 percent above pre Korea levels, while Britain preserves balance of payments and full employment.
Russia's Jakob A Malik, new Security Council president, urges UN to order withdrawal of American troops from Korea and to convene North Korean representatives. he warns of a veto if demands are not met.

Final judging by provincial horticultural officials will occur in August with trophy winners announced at the D M C C building. Homes with top scores may qualify for provincial honors.

The Dauphin to Saskatchewan border route likely to be hard surfaced within three years, per a letter from Hon. Errick Willis to the Dauphin chamber of commerce. He notes the road has a high priority and under normal circumstances a very good chance of hard surfacing, though no definite promise is given.
